I have recently relocated from Portland, Oregon, (where I owned a strength and conditioning business), to Austin, Texas and I am absolutely ecstatic that Defranco's joined forces with the Onnit Academy. As a former coach, this facility provides me every tool possible and imaginable to achieve optimal performance.
As a former 24Hour fitness member and employee, I can honestly say that I will never go back to the public gym space unless its the only possibly option. I also find it incredibly tough to workout at a Crossfit due to the lack of quality control (not by all coaches but most) and I needed a facility that provided me with specific tools but an inviting and educated culture. Defranco's at the Onnit Academy was the perfect solution.
I typically train in a very traditional sense with barbells, focusing on the big four lifts and the two olympic lifts but I also like to use unconventional tools for my auxiliary and assistance work. This facility not only provides me the necessary equipment, its all top of its class.
Whether you are that person who has never left the elliptical (but wants to) or you are a professional athlete then this training facility will provide you the necessary coaching and equipment to be successful.
In addition to an amazing facility the staff here at Onnit is absolutely amazing. Everyone is extremely friendly, helpful and supportive. This gym truly has a family feel and that comfort is incredibly important to your fitness success, especially when you are in a brand new city like myself.

ย ย ย Read moreWhat gym hell must be like. Didn't realize this is basically a cross fit gym combined with the worst elements of the most ghetto Planet Fitness location. People walking around shirtless, dripping sweat, stinking, in bare feet, only socks, crocs, and Teva sandles. Nasty.
Old dilapidated and low quality dumbbells, only 2 old treadmills and a few of the manual treadmills, no fixed weight barbells, a bathroom falling apart with the toilet bowl cover hanging on by one hinge. No air conditioning. Hot and smelly. Humid atmosphere. Couldn't draw up a worse gym in my imagination. To me it's 1 star but I guess to cross fit cultists this is what they like.
Only a few smoothie choices and no chicken wraps or anything in their nutrition bar or whatever it's called.
If you know how to work out and don't need or want a trainer or group then this place is definitely not for you.
They do an incredible job on marketing and must edit photos or take superb angles like a catfish on tinder. Almost thinking they pay influencers to hype this place up. Either way I'd prefer the most basic Planet Fitness or Crunch 100x over this. In fact I'd rather get chubby and not work out over having to work out in an environment...
ย ย ย Read moreI recently went to the gym for the grand opening of the bang muay thai system. Im from LA and travelled all the way to be there. This facility is amazing. It has everything a gym needs. They have state of the art weights and other things for strength and conditioning for any type of athlete. The head coach for BJJ is awesome too. He has a great personality and is very knowledgeable, wish I had the extra time to train with him. Everyone at this gym is friendly from the staff to the coaches. The bang muay thai system was created by Duane bang Ludwig and the instructor here is my coach Alex. Both are great fighters and instructors. Alex is an awesome coach and miss having him in Los Angeles. With the system and Alex's smarts and experience you will get the ultimate experience for a work out and learn to fight. The bathrooms here are very clean including the showers. This is a state of the art gym. They also have a cafe to get your right including vitamins and gear from weights to shirts. Onnit is the place to be at, give them a call and they will have what you are...
