I’ve been talking about this place nonstop since the wife and I went in January and had yet to leave a review! Better late than never is how that saying goes, right?! For starters, although the outside of the building is extremely nondescript(definitely A IYKYK situation, we thought we got lost! Haha) the vibe once you get inside is polar opposite. Stepping into Kuya Wellness is like entering a futuristic haven designed to promote inner peace. The earthy tones, smells of lavender and turmeric lattes brewing, soft lighting, and calming atmosphere instantly dispel any stress you carried in there with you. It’s a harmonious blend of a meditation temple and a high-tech wellness lounge, infused with a touch of Austin’s quirky charm that makes it feel like a hidden gem. Sarah and my name twin Jordan personally welcomed my wife and me during our visit(it was our anniversary), making us feel like royalty.
We went here specifically for The Opus SoundBed. TLDR: If you’re contemplating trying the Opus SoundBed, I highly recommend it.
Initially it was a little daunting to figure out exactly where everything went, what the playlist would be like, and if the time slot we’d reserved would be sufficient enough to get a real feel for it. If I could’ve packed it up in the whip and take it home I would have, right then and there! The SoundBed isn’t just a bed for sleeping with some speakers added; it’s more like an invitation to surrender and connect with yourself on a deeper level. The experience goes beyond sound; it’s about sensation. The vibrations don’t overwhelm you like a loud speaker; instead, they flow through your body, synchronizing with your breathing, thoughts, and perhaps even your soul if you’re open to it(I promise I’m sober writing this review). If I had to put it into words: It’s like your body is being tuned, just like you would fine-tune an instrument. One moment, you’re deeply relaxed, and the next, you’re left wondering if this is what enlightenment truly feels like. I’m 6’5”, but I found the SoundBed to be comfortable for my height.
What REALLY sets Kuya apart is their comprehensive approach to wellness. They don’t just throw you onto the futuristic massage table and call it a day. Every aspect of the space is intentional and meticulously designed to guide you into a deeper state of presence. From the moment you arrive, you’re enveloped in a quiet and reflective atmosphere that encourages introspection. You don’t just leave feeling relaxed; you leave feeling like your nervous system has undergone that much need hard reset.
If you’re in Austin and seeking a wellness experience that transcends basic trends, Kuya is the place to be. Trust me, you’ll find yourself making excuses to return. Tell Sarah & Jordan, the “Other...
Read moreI am giving this place two stars. It’s not for everyone and there are pros/cons.
Pros: To begin with, they have an excellent set of extremely cold plunges and a very hot sauna. Also, their interior decoration is pretty great. Staff is polite and attractive.
Cons: Two. First, this is ultimately a business/social club that attracts an alarming amount of people who are high on the spectrum for narcissistic personality disorder and borderline personality disorder. And there isn’t much privacy when you use the plunges/sauna.
Second, this is basically a business where a bunch of white folks are trying to jack Indian, South East Asian, and indigenous wisdom etc. + claim it as theirs when it will never ever be theirs. There is this whole vibe in the place about spirituality being equated to the number of plant medicine ceremonies and bali trips you’ve had.
The reason why I gave this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the president of this place (it’s just a title) gave me a refund for my membership in a timely manner. Kudos to her for that though when I had a sit down with her it should have been in private. Troy who works he is awesome though. Out of everyone I met who works there, I think he should be promoted to managing this place.
So I am now a member at Ocean Labs which is also in Atx. The cool things about Ocean Labs is that they have a PEMF machine, the staff is less standoffish and there is...
Read moreWell if you’re looking to have your soul gently handled and your mental health acknowledged.. head over to Kuya. Where even the couch talk was as sweet and supple as the service. From the jump, shoes off and leave your life at the door you have entered into a healing realm. The people are gentle, sweet and attentive, especially to your needs and wants as you are in recovery mode. You come in vulnerable and you leave replenished. The women working at the front desk behind them draped in vines were especially sweet! Sydney was exceptionally patient & kind as she guided me through the longevous way in which you have to sign up. She coached me through the beginning of my journey, as I laid upon this crushed velvet chair that vibrated me into elation. Then I was summoned down to the sauna and cold plunge where I was tantalized by those elements. And then Katelyn, who was an absolute doll did me the service of tenderly injecting me with the most vital nutrients I could need and use to get me through the rest of my day.. She spoke every word that was science so it was facts that she’s good at her job. But also made it digestible and approachable. They are professional people here, but they are also people people which; is hard to come by these days. On a rainy day this girl felt like it was sunshine outside...
