Rowing Dock — Local services in Austin

ur apartment booked a paddleboard yoga event with Rowing Dock, and it was such a great experience! Parking is limited at the Rowing Dock Rental area, but there are other lots nearby--give yourself at least 15 minutes to find parking and walk over just in case. You'll need to sign a waiver and provide a driver's license for liability before participating. They have open cubbies where you can store your shoes and belongings.

It can get pretty crowded on Saturday mornings, so we were lucky we didn't have to wait in line. Highly recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, and applying sunscreen beforehand!

Our instructor, MJ, was super nice and helpful throughout the entire session. We were given a dry bag to carry essentials onto the water. After a brief orientation, we put on life vests and stood next to our paddleboards. MJ helped everyone mount and paddle out to a lotus-shaped floating platform a short distance from the dock. This side of Lady Bird Lake was much cleaner compared to the area near Rainey Street.

Once we arrived, MJ secured our paddleboards to the lotus structure so we wouldn't drift during yoga. We were allowed to remove our life vests for the session and didn't need them on the way back either. The yoga flow was simple and lasted about 30 minutes, with the most challenging poses being Warrior I and II.

A Day of Fun for the Whole Family

We had an absolute blast at Rowing Dock! We rented a canoe, kayak, and paddleboard for the day, and it was the perfect way to explore Lake Austin. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, getting us set up with everything we needed and giving us tips on where to go, they were top-notch. The canoe was perfect for our family, with plenty of space for us to relax and enjoy the scenery. The kayak was great for my wife, and the paddleboard was a hit with the kids – they loved paddling around and trying to stand up (with a few hilarious tumbles in the process!). The location couldn't be beat. The views of the Austin skyline and the Westlake hills were stunning, and it was so peaceful being out on the water. We paddled around for a few hours, stopping to take breaks and enjoy the scenery. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny day in Austin. Overall, I can't recommend Rowing Dock highly enough. CAR BROKEN INTO! Bag & wallet stolen! Traveling from out of town I didn’t want to bring a leather bag out on the water. And since I had little kids with me I was nervous we’d accidentally drop my wallet in the lake at some point. So I covered my bag with kids’ sweaters, sprinkled crayons and toys all over, and left fast food leftovers out to deter anyone from considering there was any value in this older mini van. 1 hour into kayaking I got notifications on my watch that multiple transactions of hundreds of dollars were being spent at Walmart. We rowed back to the Rowing Dock where the employees said that break-ins are a huge problem. They happen all the time, even to the employees. The car detail business about a mile away called Barton Springs Car Wash graciously cleaned out all the glass of my car free of charge. I am so grateful for their kindness. No one was hurt, and money will be refunded to my accounts. But was it inconvenient to have all my cards canceled while traveling? Absolutely. Was it inconvenient to spend the next 48 hours canceling cards and figuring out how to replace the window before traveling home? Absolutely. Do I think Rowing Dock should accommodate for these reoccurring burglaries and provide security for the parked cars or possibly lockers to rent on site? Absolutely. Ultimately, I can replace what I lost eventually. But I can’t replace my lost vacation time...
