Vandry’s BJJ has been an important part of my life and my family's for over two decades. I first stepped onto the mats as a beginner in 2000, and I never imaged the profound impact Professor Vandry and his students would have on me. Since then, I've had the privilege of watching my three children grow up at the academy, experiencing expert instruction and warm community.
Even after training under Professor Vandry for so long, I'm still amazed at how much I have left to learn. His encyclopedic knowledge of techniques, his understanding of skeletal structure, the muscles and ligaments in the body, coupled with an uncanny ability to break down complex movements into easily grasped steps, teaches me something every week, even after all these years. Just when I think I've seen it all, I can walk into the gym and leave surprised.
Beyond the mats, Professor Vandry and the team have provided life lessons for my children, teaching them discipline, respect, perseverance, and more through the art of jiu-jitsu. The family atmosphere at the academy nurtures growth both physically and mentally. It’s almost like a therapy session every time I go to the gym. But also, those lessons help when you leave the gym. Monday morning calls aren’t so bad when you teach your self how to survive a choke from an incredible opponent. My family and I will forever be grateful for the positive impact of Professor Vandry and his...

I've been training at Vandry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for about 5 years. If you are looking for instant gratification, to challenge other meatheads in "open mat" sessions, to become the next UFC champion, or just a place to "roll around" in your fancy rashguard (most of the training at Vandry is done in Gi)...then this is not the place for you.
However, if you are looking to: travel back to a time when you respect your instructors (yes, you even bow to them sometimes), drill (a lot) to learn and understand techniques, train safely with great partners (yes Mr. Whitebelt, no heel hooks or punch chokes during rolling until you demonstrate control^^), and understand that there is no shortcut to mastery - that each rank is EARNED (like the old way)...then this might be the place you're looking for.
Professor Willian Vandry is a 6th degree Black Belt, and has competed (very successfully) in Pan-Am tournaments; he is the real deal. If it's any indication, people like Master Carlos Machado or Sensei Bas Rutten show up for private seminars sometimes...
So yes, it's not a "gym", or a "factory"...and a "small number of long term students" IS telling. In fact, last seminar there were ~17 Blacks Belts in attendance... Quality Vs Quantity?
You...
