During a recent move from Dallas to Austin, my friends and I decided to explore this restaurant that had garnered attention for its supposedly appetizing offerings. Situated in close proximity to tech giants like Samsung, Apple, and Dell, the restaurant's convenient location seemed promising. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of our expectations, leaving us wondering if the restaurant's popularity was primarily due to its proximity to tech companies rather than its culinary prowess.
Upon arriving, we were greeted by a lunchtime buffet that featured both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. However, after perusing the offerings, my friends and I decided to opt for the à la carte menu, as the buffet failed to entice our vegetarian palates. Our selections included Paneer Biryani, with varying levels of spiciness, Paneer Tikka Masala served with rice, and Garlic Naan.
The disappointment began with the Paneer Biryani. Its presentation appeared haphazard, resembling a simple layering of pre-cooked paneer curry and seasoned rice. While the spiciness was on point, the lack of care in the dish's composition left us regretting our choice. The execution seemed off, making us question the chef's familiarity with authentic biryani preparation. The dish was a miss, and we wished we had chosen differently.
Moving on to the Paneer Tikka Masala, our expectations were further let down. Instead of the promised Paneer Tikka Masala, it was evident that we were served a rendition of the common Paneer Butter Masala. The absence of the expected grilled onions and red/green bell peppers, coupled with a lack of spice and questionable salt levels, left us perplexed. We even reached out to the staff, hoping for some clarity, but their response only deepened our confusion. We reluctantly consumed the dish, mainly due to our exhaustion and hunger after the move.
The Garlic Naan was a saving grace, offering a well-cooked and flavorful accompaniment to the paneer tikka masala, or rather paneer butter masala. The contrast of the naan's texture against the dish's creamy consistency provided a semblance of balance to the meal.
Having relocated to Austin, I find myself hesitant to return to this restaurant to explore its other vegetarian offerings. My initial optimism has been dampened by a lackluster dining experience. Regrettably, I cannot enthusiastically recommend this restaurant to friends and acquaintances, as I suspect its popularity may be more a result of its strategic location rather than the quality of its cuisine. It's possible that the American palate with its milder taste preferences may find solace here, but for those seeking an authentic and satisfying Indian culinary experience, this restaurant may fall short.
In conclusion, my visit to this Indian restaurant in Austin proved to be a disappointment, as the dishes failed to live up to their descriptions and the overall experience left much to be desired. While the Garlic Naan stood out as a highlight, the lack of authenticity, subpar spicing, and overall confusion surrounding the dishes made it unlikely that I'll revisit this establishment or recommend...
Read moreMy sincerest gratitude to the team at Spice Fine Indian Cuisine Biryani Place! Thank you for the delicious food, wonderful customer service and all that you’re doing to help during this time!
My friend Kat and I both had a masala chai and we split an order of the mixed veg pakoras and saag paneer. Of course we had garlic naan as well!
The masala chai, yummy! Different for me at first for sure but definitely enjoyable! It wasn’t until this trip and conversing with my friend that I had realized this was my first experience with authentic chai. It most certainly shall not be my last.
The mixed veg pakoras, oh yeah! Cooked perfectly and tastes amazing by itself not including the two sauces that are provided to pair with it! Both of which I found paired quite well, wasn’t disappointed one bit.
Their saag paneer, mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm! Despite this being one of my favorite Indian dishes it had literally been years since I last had this wonderful dish before ordering it at Spice. Definitely worth the wait! I’m astonished I let such a long time go by without having it before today but gosh darn it I am ever so grateful for Spice being where I did have it after such a long wait! I freaking love spinach! I freaking love cheese! (& theirs is homemade!)
The garlic naan. It’s garlic naan. So you know what that means right? Wonderful! Fresh, warm, yummy in my tummy and oh so good with the saag paneer! Highly quality naan for sure! If you haven’t before I highly suggest scooping your saag paneer and rice with the garlic naan! Of course they’re delicious by themselves but together form a medley of glorious flavors!
Did I mention my friend and I split all of this? We shared our appetizer and entree and still had leftovers! Great portion sizes!!
Service = lovely! We felt welcome from the moment we arrived till the moment we left! Near the end of our meal we had ordered a third order of garlic naan without knowing at the time they were actually already closed. It wasn’t until the bread was brought out that my friend Kat took notice of the time and realized we were there 30 minutes past close! That meant we had ordered our last order of garlic naan after closing and yet the kind staff at Spice still chose to go above and beyond in taking care of us! Of course we definitely ended up getting our food to go after this realization.
All in all, a wonderful experience! I look forward to going back! Thank you again to everyone at Spice Fine Indian...
Read moreMan, I really really really want to like this place. But the way I was treated, and their lack of response to my reaching out to them about it just makes me too sad to support them. I ordered, showed up when it told me to, and watched a complete meltdown of a restaurant for over two hours while I waited for my food. I watched people who came in after me, who ordered right there get their food and walk out, while I was basically ignored and not given any answer other than, "oh yeah, I'll go to the back and check on it." At some point, the two manager-looking guys just went to the back to "check on" my order and never returned. I asked the hostess (who was the only friendly and honest person I interacted with) if I could just cancel and get my money back. I asked more than once. She apologized profusely and said that when she went herself to get my order an HOUR after I arrived (1.5 hours after ordering), my order HAD BEEN LOST BY THE KITCHEN. And the management let me sit there not telling me for over an hour that they had no idea where my order was. She swore to me it was coming out and please wait just a few more minutes. When my huge bag of food came out, I grabbed it and ran back to the dinner party of friends that had now been waiting over two hours for me to get back. Of course, I didn't check it, because the hostess had been the only person to tell me the truth. Unfortunately, it wasn't my order. What's worse than that? The order they actually gave me was MISSING SIGNIFICANT bits of the meal that was on the order card. So, you made me wait for over two hours, you didn't even tell me the situation until I got it out of your hostess, you refused to let me cancel my order, gave me the wrong order and ALSO screwed up the order you actually gave me? That wouldn't be so infuriating but for two things: you refused to even acknowledge my emails and phone calls about this. the food we ended up eating actually had pretty good flavor. Damn shame, because I feel well insulted and screwed over by...
