Disappointed and Won’t Be Returning
I recently made a purchase at GamesIRL that left me extremely disappointed. I spent over $200 in total, including a high-value Pokémon card priced at $110 plus tax. After bringing the card home and inspecting it more closely, I noticed a clear white line across the card, affecting both its condition and value.
I calmly called the store to explain the issue, hoping for a fair solution. I wasn’t asking for a refund—just to put the value of that one card toward store credit. Unfortunately, I was told that because I took the card home and they were closed on Monday, they couldn’t do anything about it.
This left a bad taste in my mouth. Pokémon cards are already hard to come by, and I chose to shop here despite inflated prices because of the selection. But my hard-earned money deserves better customer service and accountability.
The gentleman on the phone said he hoped to earn my return business through future purchases. No thank you. I won’t be shopping here again—for myself or my children.
Edit:
Thank you for responding, but I feel it’s important to clarify a few things for others considering shopping here.
Yes, the card was discounted 10%, but I still paid over $110 for it—not a small amount. When I got home and inspected it more closely, I noticed a white line across the card that wasn’t visible in-store. I contacted the shop calmly and didn’t ask for a refund—I simply asked for store credit so I could continue supporting your business.
Instead, I was met with a blanket policy response, no real effort to work with me, and now a public implication that I might be trying to scam you. That’s not just disappointing—it’s offensive. I made my purchase in good faith and was still willing to spend more in your store, but your refusal to offer any resolution and the tone of your reply make it clear where customer loyalty stands.
I understand the need for policies, but policies without flexibility, empathy, or accountability create bad experiences. I hope this helps other customers make an informed decision. Pokémon cards are expensive, and...
Read moreAmazing is the best word I can use when talking about this delightful card shop. I went in today to trade some Pokemon cards and was delighted to see people playing magic, and Pokemon while other people browsed the store for cards and retro video games. The staff are all super friendly and knowledgeable about the products they sell at the store. They are also helpful with any question you may have. I was able to get very generous offers for what I brought in with me, and left very happy and satisfied with what I received. The store is also celebrating its 10 year anniversary next weekend August 1st-3rd. I definitely recommend this store to anyone who loves TCG games, table top games, or retro video games, they have what you are looking for. Again amazing store and staff that will be the card store I go to from now on. Congratulations for hitting ten years and I hope you have another great ten...
Read moreReally nice store with good prices. I had called about "temple garden" for a single of mtg and was told they have temple garden(s) implying more than one. Bit out of my way but I really needed them. When I showed, everyone was playing magic and I made awkward eye contact with a couple players so I said hey. Proceded to wait by counter just to pick up some temple gardens. After a while I asked the store players if anyone is working here and one of them turned around and said he was and he'll be with me in a second and went back to his game. Fully understand having staff play to ensure enough players for a mtg event is enjoyable just would have preferred making it known he'll be with me in a moment when I was waiting or didn't make me feel his game was more important than my time. Also they only had one in stock but a player was nice enough to give one to store to sell me and be...
