This store is brand new, and I'm a fan. It's sort of like Walmart in that it's half grocery store and half department store. So far, I've only visited the grocery store side.
Lots of great produce at mostly very good prices. Note that their roasted, ready-to-eat chickens are reasonable priced and are Hormone-Free! Spices in the birds lean to the garlicky side, FYI.
Meijer has a great app that you can use before and during shopping. You can create a list from sale items (and probably even items that aren't on sale). One very cool feature is that you can scan and bag your groceries as you shop -- yes, while you're walking about the store choosing items to buy. There's a special check-out line just for those who've used that feature of the app. You scan the check-out QR code with your phone, and the check-out machine uploads your items into the computer for payment. The check-out person will re-scan a few of your items, to make sure you're not "cheating," then you pay and you're out the door, lickety split! It's very convenient.
The reason I gave the store only 4 starts is two-fold:
With SO MANY pins to remember, this one is annoying to me.
Still, I'll be heading there again, soon. They seedless watermelons...
Read moreI like Meijer and the convenience of "one-stop shopping". However, I'm giving this a three-star rating because of their scan and go process. I like the scan and go option, especially because I bring my own bags when shopping, but they have some inefficiencies in the process that I believe could be fixed to improve the overall shopping experience. It's convenient that you can scan on your phone; however, the setup process and scanning drains your battery quite quickly. Additionally, the scanner in the app doesn't always work. I did login to their wifi, which helped a little, but it still wasn't great. I would recommend they implement the handheld scanners like Giant Eagle. They work great and you can look at your shopping list on your phone as you scan items. Weighing your fruits and veggies is a bit wasteful and inconvenient. I realize they have a weigh station in the produce area; however, it was being used when I was in that section, so I had to wait until check out to process. When checking out, you have to weigh your produce at a separate scale, then print a label (excess waste), and take it back to your scan station to scan and add to your order. It would be nice if you could just add the weighted fruit to your order without printing a label for each item. This could be done if the stations themselves had the ability to weigh produce ( even if just a couple had it).
Overall, I like Meijers. They provide great customer service and their store is clean. I really like the convenience that self-scanning offers; however until they address the "user-friendliness" of their scan and go process, I will be going to Giant Eagle, as their process is more user-friendly and...
Read moreIn line for 30im. The people in front of me, (two full carts, $260 merch), had a problem with the final checkout. All their items were bagged in their cart and the cashier holding the receipt. The cadheo called mgr, another 10 min passed and I asked if she would ring me up while they're deciding what to do. The male of the couple yells, "no she's not ringing you until she's done with me. (When it was all said and done they went to customer service). The couple continued yelling at me to shut up and go to another line, them the male, who came back 3x from the service desk, then looked at me and said, "you're dead" that's when I called the police. The mgr, who was not there through the entire episode, sided with the male.He approached the male, getting only his side of the story and then proceeded to tell me, when I asked him to walk me out, (as the male was threatening me) that I need to be respectful of this jerk that had been mouthing off to me for 20min, must be nice to be a member of the "good old boys club" and think you have a right to bully a single woman I'm 200% positive that if I was a man or had someone with me he would have not opened his mouth. Funny while I was dealing with the rude, ignorant mgr., another woman complained to him about the rude service she had experienced. Corporate will hear about this , although if this is a mgr they employ they probably won't care.I called the store 3times, on hold for 10 min each time, to get the mgrs name, no one answered. Service is the worst I have ever encountered,...
