Absolute worst experience of my life. I have never thought buying a couch I would be deceived and lied to multiple times. And on top of that we did not get what we paid for. Pitiful business and I would urge you to spend your money elsewhere. This place does not care for their customers and my husband and I are very distraught.
I am going to get into the details. Note: we bought a Jackson Furniture sectional mammoth grey. The weekend after Thanksgiving (Nov 30th) my husband and I went furniture shopping to find a couch. We just moved into our apartment and needed a couch quick. We went to every furniture store and was told the couch we would want would take 4-6 weeks. We came across Opus Furniture on Saturday (12/1). The selection in the store was very scarce. We were stopped by the owner Opus on the way out the door and was told he could get us a couch by Monday. He pulled out a magazine and we found the couch we have been looking for. A overside grey "U" shaped sectional. He then again told us that he could have it delivered on Monday. We then asked how much and he told us $2600. That was more than we were willing to spend, so we left. On Sunday (12/2) my husband and I went furniture shopping again. Same thing. No one could get us a couch for 4-6 weeks. So we decided to go with Opus since he could get us a couch by Monday. We call him and he told us that he checked with his distributor and they had it in stock! We negotiated the price to $2200. That included delivery and the ottoman. He was firm that we couldn't buy the couch without the ottoman. So we thought we were getting a good deal. Monday (12/3) I get a phone call from Opus around 1:30 pm. He says, "Your couch has been promised to another customer. Another one is coming Wednesday. I PROMISE we will get you your couch Wednesday." We are ok with that. Wednesday wasn't that far away. Wednesday (12/5) No phone call from Opus by noon. We don't know when they are delivering it. We call Opus. He tells us the truck never showed up in Mississippi. He then tells us, "I PROMISE it will come Friday." We are ok with that again. We were slightly annoyed but Friday was not that far away. Friday (12/7) It's early afternoon, still no phone call from Opus. We initiate the phone call AGAIN. We ask when they are delivering the couch. He then tells us that the couch did not show up again. He says again, "I PROMISE Monday delivery." At this point we were frustrated because he kept promising and giving us his word. Monday (12/10) We call Opus around 1030am and ask about our couch. Apparently their guy isn't there yet and they have to pick up the couch. My husband told Opus that the elevator broke down in the apartment last Tuesday and still was not repaired. Opus said that would not be a problem. My husband cleared his morning schedule to help with the delivery. He had to go into work at 1pm. Still no couch. Around 3:30pm they show up with the couch. This sectional was massive. The poor delivery guy Bryan was all by himself with this couch. We couldn't fit the couch up the stairs with the dolly because of the turn up the stair case. We ended up sliding the couch up the stairs, then titling it on the arm, pivoting it and then sliding it up again. It was too much work for 1 person to do on their own. I physically helped and pushed the couch up the stairs. Mind you I am 5'6 120lbs. My husband was upset that I had to help and that Opus did not send 2 guys since he did notify him in advance that the elevator was out. Opus rudely said, "It was no hassel to you!" (As I iced my back). And then the ottoman was not delivered and there was a tear in the sectional. We notified Opus. He wanted us to give him another $400 for the ottoman when it was INCLUDED in the price when we bought it. He also did not offer to replace the tear in the couch. End of the day, TERRIBLE customer service and Opus is a CON ARTIST. Nothing was ever offered to us to make the situation somewhat ok. His morals and standards is APPALLING. We paid $2200 for a damaged couch with no ottoman...
Read moreMy fiance and I looked EVERYWHERE for some couches and dining room chairs for our new home.. we even scoured a few Consignment stores and kept coming up with nothing. I googled 'furniture store' and found this place in East Plano.
When we first arrived we were a little nervous because the area/parking lot is not the best HOWEVER once you're inside the shop it has a lot of charm. Opus has set out example pieces from many warehouses he orders directly from. We ended up flipping through several catalogs with him and ordering from the catalog. As you can imagine I was a bit nervous not having seen the couches or chairs in person, but Opus allowed us to come check them out in his store before delivery as he wanted us to be sure of our purchase.
I was impatient as ever and anxious for the furniture so I called to check on their status and as soon as they were delivered and chairs assembled we went to see them. They looked great so we scheduled delivery (which was priced GREAT - he definitely beats the competition here). Our first delivery was missed, but the second scheduled delivery went off without a hitch and the couches were even BETTER than I dreamed!
For reference, we bought two white bonded leather cream couches with a 10 year leather protection kit/warranty as well as 6 cream upholstered dining room chairs.
PROS:
Opus came in early and stayed late several times to accommodate our schedules. He was friendly and helpful and the prices were the best around town. Catalogs give you a LARGE variety of selection. Leather protection plan...
Read moreThis one is a little over due...We had an overall good experience with Essi the owner of the place. He is a gentleman and a man of integrity...do not work with anyone else.
He ordered a bed for us but the manufacturer called back a week later and said they no longer carried that specific one but had a higher model (at a higher cost). What made me upset was that Essi was adamant that I drive to his store (an hour drive) the day I spoke with him to order the piece because it was available and that his shipping was leaving that night or so and it had to be done asap. Essi was willing to work with us and we figured out a compromise and I waited for the delivery again.
Alas the piece arrives, but its not what I had ordered. Here is where Essi's team went to bat for me. They returned the piece and gave the manufacturer what they needed to hear. The manufacturer came clean and said they no longer have that model at all. So Essi worked with us to find a suitable alternative within our budget. He was very courteous and gave us some good advice. It's unfortunate we could not find the matching piece we wanted and how long it took to get a bed but satisfied with how Essi dealt with...
