Ruth Shaw Inc — Local services in Baltimore

I really try to purchase from local businesses to support the community. This is the second time I’ve been in this store. First time, the owner reported that he doesn’t carry a size over over IT40 as to insinuate that I’m too large. Today, I asked if there was a certain style of dress by a certain designer. Again, in a dismissive tone, “No I don’t like feathers.” How about, no we do not carry that style but how about I help you find something else?” He clearly doesn’t believe in customer service and is extremely arrogant. His only advantage is that there is no competition around here- but most of what he stocks in his store is available via online if you purchase directly from the designer. I guess that’s why he acts like this. Word of advice to the owner- You never know the impact of your words and who people are connected to. Be gracious and kind; it doesn’t take that...

First visit, first impression: WOW! The selection is stupendous, the customer service is impeccable, and the store design is breathtaking. This upscale-boutique is the perfect place to find work or casual-wear. I met the owner when I was with my mom the other day. What a kind and knowledgeable gentleman -- never without a smile on his face. Some may say Shaw is pricey, but the designers they have are worth every penny. They have a huge sale section too which has great deals on the designers you love! This is the store you go to if you want everyone you run into to compliment your outfit. A friend of mine told me they will be featured in the September issue of Baltimore style and I can't wait to see it! The only place near the area that is even remotely similar is Relish in G'Town. I have been here twice now and have made out like a bandit on both accounts. It is so much fun to shop here because every time, I walk away with something I wouldn’t normally have picked for myself and it ends up being one of my most worn outfits. Ray and Toby (sorry if I am spelling your names incorrectly) make the experience so enjoyable. I do my normal cruise around and then I just let them take over!! They both have impeccable taste and bring items I missed to my attention! They also show me how to wear funky pieces! There really are not are not any great stores to shop in Baltimore for women’s clothing so thank goodness this place has it all, great clothing/shoes and great people with great taste!!
