After growing up in Barre City until I joined the U.S. Army and making that a career, I was shocked tonight at the Paramount. We came home to visit family for the holidays and wanted to purchase 11 gift certificates for grandchildren and friends. We went to the theater and inquired into the purchase of gift cards and were told that a 2D Ticket would be $10.07 with the tax. We asked if we could add concessions to the card and the very pleasant young lady waiting on us said yes indeed we could. Immediately an elderly gentleman sitting behind her piped up and said we could but the minimum was $20. I think it is nice that the same family owns the only two theaters in a 50 mile radius and can strong arm people in these times into purchasing more than they intend. Our plan was the initial $10 and an additional $5 on each of the eleven cards, but not $10 for the movie and $10 more for concessions the kids would not use. I can say I am happy I no longer have to view movies at either of these theaters since I live in another state that does not have mandatory minimums. I hope the theater owner sees this and adjusts his policy since a $165 loss of sale is not a drop in the bucket, or is it for...
Read moreComing from someone who used to work at this theater and for these people, it is disheartening to see how poorly run it is now. Opening weekend, let alone opening NIGHT for the conjuring, and they have a poor older guy working all by himself, doing tickets, concessions, and movies. Meanwhile, not one of the people who actually own or take part of taking care of this company, not one of them can be found. He did fantastic, but it is absolutely not okay. There should not be one individual working opening night alone, and there absolutely should be someone to contact when stuff like this happens, like one of the owners ? I used to love this theater, I hate the management it’s fallen under and how poorly the workers are treated. Absolutely not okay. It is not the workers fault, it’s the individuals claiming to own it. Plan better, and if you don’t have enough individuals to work, don’t open for the day. It is...
Read moreDo yourself a favor and avoid this place. The last 3 times I've been there each time the electronic stuff is working right. Ever since the old guy has become the manager there it has been nothing but problems. One time he couldn't figure out how to get the credit card machines to work so if you didn't have cash no sale. Another he couldn't get the soda dispenser working right so only could buy water or alcohol. This last time the movie had sound...
