Oh, boy. Just spent $50 and threw most of it in the trash. I'm pretty open minded about differences in taste between restaurants cooking the same genre of cuisine.
I purchased the General Tso and it was soggy, sweet and didn't have any garlic or chili in the sauce. It was like soggy dessert chicken.
The Sesame chicken smelled sour- tasted sour, like some sort of fish sauce disaster mixed with honey.
The spring rolls were "free" and grease-soaked. The egg rolls were okay but a little salty. The crab rangoons were lackluster- a lot of straight cream cheese and chunks of fake crab, with no lemongrass or ginger or scallion or sesame flavor. The shumai was meh. Kinda gluey.
The chicken yakitori starter was actually really good, and the Cali roll was good too- resembling the ones from Price Chopper.
I was really disappointed with the Thai pineapple fried rice. It was literally white rice, raisins, peas, pineapple and... cabbage, maybe? It tasted like toddler food. No flavor. No salt. No seasoning. No Bueno. The miso soup--- eh, I don't really like it anyway, I'm not a fan of miso or bonito so I can't say either way if it was good or not. I tasted it and didn't like it but I don't like it anyway.
Two thumbs up on the salad dressing, it could have used more ginger and less mayo but I put it on my fresh green salad lightly and ate it up (probably because I was still hungry.
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant out. It moved into the space where I used to go out as a kid (The Country House) and then worked at, (Sean & Nora's), and when I paid for my food my hands stuck to the bar. I don't know if it was dirty, or still damp from wiping down, or just sticky for some other reason, but it was also gross, like the food. Fingers crossed that was just fish sauce in the Sesame chicken and not expired ingredients. I'll stick to...
Read moreI ordered a Bento Box with chicken katsu, gyoza, California rol, spring rolls, with miso soup and d I chose pork fried rice. I also ordered a Crazy California roll and a cucumber roll with cream cheese rice on the outside.
The bento box is so worth the price and the extra for the pork fried rice. The chicken katsu was soft nice flavorful chicken breast the pork fried rice had a nice flavor to it the gyoza was nice and crunchy but soft as well the egg rolls had a nice flavor there's definitely enough there for two people especially with the Miso soup and the salad.
The Crazy California roll was really nice and flavorful with the eel sauce on it was really good It had a good flavor it wasn't too "fishy". It had the perfect flavor to it. The California roll was amazing that came with the bento box. My special order cucumber and cream cheese roll was really nice as well they didn't skimp on the cream cheese.
Everything is definitely worth the price you pay when you go there. The food is fresh food and flavorful. It was quite amazing. Best I've had in a long long time.
The only complaint I had is, for three packages of sushi, I only got one packet of soy sauce (guessing...
Read moreThe place where I work, keeps ordering from these guys. I quite frankly, do not like their food and quality. I favor China Moon and Grand Buffet much more than Asian Gourmet.
Of the two orders I've had with this restaurant, first off, Coconut Chicken is NOT meant to be spicy! It also looked like very greasy and oiled up fish fillet slices that is trying to be chicken. What kind of idea of Coconut Chicken is this? You want a better idea of Coconut Chicken? Go to China Moon.
The next order I've had from them, is Sesame Chicken, which turned out to be as disappointing. They give you these chunks of chicken which is kinda hard to eat. I much prefer the more smaller bits and pieces that are often served from China Moon, which by the way, has the best Sesame Chicken you'll find. Not with Asian Gourmet though, because their idea is to lightly coat the chicken which gives it a dry watery taste.
All in all, I've not have gotten a good impression by this restaurant. I've been to better asian cuisines around other towns before ever having tasted this one and wow, it is significantly underwhelming. I'm going to stick to China Moon, Grand Buffet and wherever else that isn't...
