Here's a review from a tenant who has lived here for one complete year. The community looks fabulous when you see it for the first time while touring. However, I regretted my decision of choosing Bayonne Bay the day I moved in. Here’s why: Poor and Cheap Building Construction: Everything in the unit is made of cheap materials. It looks like a toy house. Nothing is sturdy; the walls could easily break with little to no force. Tile work done in first floor units are pathetic. None of the tiles are leveled. The undulations makes walking for challenging. Specially for the elderly. No Sound Insulation: None of the units have any sound insulation. You can literally hear what your neighbors are planning to cook for lunch. This setup makes any neighbors seem nosy. On top of this, there is a harbor very close to the community whose horn you can hear loud and clear. Nice and free alarm. Water/Heat Proofing: Due to the cheap materials used in construction, the thermal insulation of the unit has many cracks, causing heat to escape in winter, which makes your electricity bill high year-round. During storm seasons, buildings break and water gets into the units. This happened to me during my stay, and the community/management was not at all helpful in resolving the issue nor helping me with my insurance claim for destroyed furniture. They don’t respond at all to insurance claims knowing the units are built with cheap materials. Bugs/Insects: units in first floor have good amount of cracks which allows insects to roam freely inside your house. On average I’ve removed at least 4-5 insects a week in summers. Pets: They don’t explicitly have restrictions on large pets. Combined with poor construction materials, this makes the life of tenants living downstairs miserable. You will hear insane noise in the middle of the night. Shuttle to NYC: They publicize the frequency of shuttles to the city by enrolling in the shuttle program. However, they maintain one bus, which is almost always full. If you are late to get into the shuttle, you will have to wait at least another 40 minutes for the next one. Pickup and drop-off times are never met and are always late. Leasing Center and Maintenance: They were some of the sweetest folks I’ve worked with. However, it's important to note that these friendly folks do not have any power or authority over the units. They are only here to collect rents and fix your bathroom drain. Any issues you want to complain about have to go to their boss, Middlesex Management. Their support is email-only, and you should expect to wait at least three days for a response. During the storm, the management failed to provide any assistance. They sent an engineer to fix the leaking roof only after 5+ follow-ups from us, the leasing office, and the renters' insurance company. This shows how important it is for the management to address tenant issues. We did not enjoy our stay at Bayonne Bay and have decided to move out for the above reasons. New tenants looking for a rental in the area should avoid this community if you are looking for a...
Read moreLived there for almost 2 years. It is over priced for what you get. Apartments are poorly built as you can hear your neighbors very clearly ( fighting , partying, talking, having sex). Our upstairs neighbors had 3 dogs ( max per aprt is 2 dogs ) they barked at all hours of the day and night - we complained several times with management, provided proof the tenants were breaking their lease by having unauthorized pets - nothing was really done about it- except for a few notices on their door. ( one of the reasons why we moved) for the amount of money you pay management should be bending over backwards to make sure the quality of living there is up to par. We broke the lease ( we were still responsible for the rent until rented out or lease end) moved out early, of course they put our 1 bed + garage on the market for about $3000 ( approx. 30% increase of what we were paying) . The process of getting it re rented was hell, were often bounced back and forth from leasing to corp when trying to get status updates on the aprt - dealt in particular with Vanessa from leasing who was very rude and did not want to share any information on whether our aprt was close to being rented out etc... we were still paying rent we deserved as much info/ status updates as possible- she became so rude that to a point where she would hangup on calls , block calls .. found this very unprofessional given the amount of $ they were getting from us. On the other hand Christina and Alex were very helpful during process, providing me the info that Vanessa refused to provide claiming she was "not allowed so ". Now the good parts: maintenance was always helpful, Joe from maintenance was super friendly, funny and would go above and beyond to address maintenance needs as if it was his home . We do miss the events at Bayonne bay that were organized by Howard - he is awesome! always made Bayonne Bay feel alive! It does have a nice park and located near shopping and transpo to downtown. That being said, the aprt complex is still over priced for what you get, they need to lower rent if they want to acquire new tenants - no one should be paying close to 3000$ for a 1 bed let alone almost $4000 for a 2 bedroom- that is close to...
Read moreAs someone that has lived here for almost 2 years, I can tell you the 5 star reviews are forced and do not tell the true story of living here. The apartments are beautiful and spacious, HOWEVER, the apartments are poorly built and insulated. If you live in a one-bedroom apt, pray that you have considerate neighbors that are mindful of else you would be tortured and tormented with the constant noise from your neighbor. Don’t even worry about going to the leasing dept because they will send you to the customer service dept, who will either give you attitude, hang up the phone, call you incompetent, or just ignore you and your complaints.
Another thing here to expect is the lack of cleanliness from dog owners. Dog owners here are truly the worst of the worse. They DO NOT clean up after their dogs AT ALL. You have a handful of people that actually pick up after their dog, but 98% of the dog owners DO NOT. If you have a townhouse facing the grass or a one bedroom, you will be greeted with dog feces in the grass. I’m starting to think there are more dog dodo then grass at this point. Renters think maintenance should clean up after them and that’s truly disgusting and quite the opposite of their jobs and duties. The entitlement from the Dog Owners here truly baffle my brain. There should be more rules and consequences for people who do not pick up after their dog(s).
The dumpster is always overflowing despite townhouse residents having their own trash bins that they can utilize (which for some strange reason, they don’t).
The maintenance crew is probably the BEST part about living here. They are all kind, reliable, helpful, and easy to talk to. They make sure things they control run smoothly and are always super helpful when you need it. Even if they don’t have the answers or resources, they always follow up and make sure they never leave you in the dark about anything. Despite having to deal with entitled and privileged tenants every day, they always keep their cool and always there to help any way they can.
I think 2 stars is MORE than fair considering the pros and cons that come with living here.
Bayonne Bay truly has so much potential to be great but they are in the way of their...
