The only good things about my experience was that I was not charged anything and there were two very sweet dogs. This shop cannot provide accurate insurance appraisals based upon what I experienced, and you should not go here for an appraisal.
I booked an appointment here for an insurance appraisal of a ring I bought from an online auction site—I made it clear I wasn’t sure if the stone in the ring was lab or mined and that this was a key part of the appraisal. I also brought in some loose gems that I was hoping could be identified by the gemologist. When I arrived, the non-gemologist looked at my loose stones and said what she thought they were with full confidence that she was right, without using any equipment to check hardness, refractive index, density, or anything. There are too many gems that have similar visual properties to be identified this way, and to name them with confidence without any testing is irresponsible and incorrect. I was told that he “doesn’t like appraising things off the internet” and ultimately he said that given the setting he was unable to determine what the origin of the stone is (which would be the most important part of the appraisal). I was also told by the non-gemologist that the worth of the setting is in the diamonds, even though they are all minuscule, and it wouldn’t be in the platinum or main stone (she also made a comment that the ring looks like silver but is stamped platinum, which the gemologist did not respond to). As someone who has a sizeable jewelry collection and has looked into this with other pieces, this is completely inaccurate—whether melee is mined or lab it’s almost always worthless and tossed, and the money is in the metal setting. She then was using a diamond testing pen on the melee diamonds and struggling as it wasn’t working accurately, which is a massive shortcut—those tester pens are not reliable and an insurance appraisal should not involve them at all. The gemologist looked at my loose gems and said that two are “fake.” When I asked for clarification of whether they were some synthetic, like lab sapphire or something else, he looked at me like I had 3 heads and repeated “Fake,” like that was enough of an answer. When pressed he said maybe they’re glass and it doesn’t matter because they’re scratched anyways. This is not on par with what a GIA gemologist should say or how an accurate insurance appraisal...
Read moreWorst store ever! Bunch of liars. On a recommendation I walk into the store in June with a bunch of jewelry I came across while in the process of selling my house. The woman behind the counter went threw it & came across one item which I later found out was my mothers engagement ring. She removed the diamond from the ring and said it may be worth something but would need to send it out to be evaluated. I declined and then left with the diamond separate from the ring. During the interim, I’ve had it evaluated & have been trying to sell it with no luck. I then returned to the store today to see if they could place the diamond back in the ring they took it out of & was told there is no way the would’ve taken it out to begin with. A blatant lie!!! I’m now leaving the country in a few days & stuck carrying a diamond with no ring! The least they could’ve done is throw it in a $40 ring which is what they wanted 2 offer me for the ring w/o the diamond. I’ll never be recommending or setting foot in this...
Read moreCannot say enough good things about Cormier's Fine Jewelry (aka Bedford Jewelers). I have been coming here for over 40 years. Honest, friendly service and always competitive pricing. I have come to rely on them through the years; to buy an engagement ring, to buy a wedding ring and a wrap-around addition to my wedding ring and also repair of several jewelry and watch pieces that I was careless with. Every single visit and item I bought and/or got back from repair was perfect; from beginning to end. For perspective, I have been to other jewelry stores and I simply did not find the level of expertise and honesty that I found at Cormier's Fine Jewelry (aka Bedford Jewelers) No other jewelry store even comes close. You have found the hidden gem of family...
