I really liked this place. It would be fair to say that it is a treasure.
Here's the thing. Furniture shopping is one of those areas where you just don't have a clue where to start. And when you go into a place, so many questions: How badly are they price gouging you? Will their stuff last for awhile? Will they help you or just sell you? How good is their delivery option?
I was outfitting a rental and looking for serviceable furniture but with the possibility that it would just get tossed if the future owner didn't like what I picked out. So it just needed to fill a role.
J&J was perfect. They get stuff from estate sales. So it was like buying at Goodwill in that there is only one of anything. No, you can't get that in a burgundy. What you see is what you get.
But I worked with 2 different sales people. One turned out to be the owner, I learned later. But they were straight up. They were willing to haggle a bit but weren't shifty. Once an agreement was reached, they didn't keep pushing for more sales.
At the agreed time the owner showed up with all the furniture somehow magically fitting in his half-ton. We unloaded it together and it felt like I was buying from a friend - who knew his business.
I just needed good enough, and they had it. Their prices were very good too. ...
Read moreI decided to stop by J and Js after seeing multiple furniture items they posted to Craigslist. Getting into the location was a bit confusing, the building is multi-tenant and J and J's has doors on the back and front of the building. I went into a room on the 'back' side around the corner and door on the lower level (like a walk in basement). This room I walked into was just SO FULL of all sorts of furniture, rugs, lamps, you name it. In various conditions, some clearly looked very new, some a bit used. There was so much you couldn't get to it all. I found a woman outside moving some furniture around and asked her about some rugs. She told me the price of a rug I was looking at (which was clearly new still in a wrap) was $60 but she'd give it to me for $50 (I like a place where price can be negotiated). She then explained to another customer that most of their furniture comes from show homes or show rooms, some consignment. Then she brought me up to the other actual store front on the main level of the building which was also SO FULL OF STUFF. I ended up buying two rugs that were basically new and I love and will be back to swift through more of their stuff. My only complaint would be that their spaces aren't big enough for all their stuff making it hard to...
Read moreI saw a patio table on Marketplace and asked them to hold it for me while I traveled from Lafayette to pick it up. When I got there and told the owner who I was, she has a look of shock on her face and explained that she just loaded the table up to another customer who claimed to be me. She was heartbroken (and upset that someone would lie about being someone else), but offered me a bigger and better patio table for $20 more. I love my new table and it seats more people than the other one. I will keep my eye on this place when I need more furniture and you should too! Beautiful items, great prices and friendly people.
And karma will take care of the...
