We stopped here just to see where it was for the next time we were in Bend. They dont open until 11am, but for some reason the truck was open, and he has a few items ready that he was willing to serve. So we of course took him up on the offer. We got:
Vegetable pakora, little fritters of spinach and diced vegetables bound together with chickpea batter and then fried, served with a tamarind chutney dipping sauce - delicious!
Butter chicken and plain basmati rice - super creamy, slightly spicy, fragrant as heck, flavor profile a mile high with the most tender chicken breast chunks - yummy!
Bhatura papri chaat - all you people that have never heard of this, ORDER IT!! This dish will change your life!😁 soft pillows of lentil fritters covered in plain yogurt, garbanzo beans and small diced seasoned potato, crispy pieces of fried chickpea cracker (a lot like fried wonton skins), and then 3 different sauces on top of that. OMG.
Gulab jamun - tender milk dough balls lightly fried then soaked in spiced heavy syrup. A staple dessert for Indian cuisine, and my favorite served warm. (besides rasmalai)
My wife and I can't wait to go back when the menu is fully open - we are going...
Read moreI ordered the butter chicken here two times, at $14
Taste This food is really delicious. The food varied a bit between the two times I went, where one time I thought it was more heavy on the curry flavor, and the second time more creamy. I do like my butter chicken to be quite creamy, however, that's very subjective. All in all, I thought it was really good.
Quantity The serving is much smaller than it's competitor Taj Palace for the same price. There's not much rice which is a bummer since rice is cheap, and you get to choose between rice or just one slice of naan. I think they could be more generous with the sides. Additional side is $3. So the main entry is maybe 30% less than TP, and the sides are also less.
Atmosphere This is a food-cart with some seating outside, but basically you're going to do a take-out.
Conclusion It's really nice to have an option to Taj Palace in town, but I wish they would be more generous with the sides, especially given that it's a food-cart, and they charge the cost of a...
Read moreBeing an Indian myself i always try to explore Indian food when I visit other cities but I’m completely disappointed by the way the person at the counter treated me and my family when we went here to try. The person at the counter completely tried to ignore us even though there was no other customer and didn’t cared to ask our order or even greet or welcome when we were literally looking at him to start the conversation. It looked so rude and awkward because his behavior was complete opposite and nice when there was a white customer after us. We ordered platter, tandoori , Batura and Jamun but they didn’t give the rotis for the platter. Also the jamun tasted old and platter portions were less. We wanted to try good Indian food here on our bend trip but the treatment we received made me to think that I should have skipped this place. I won’t be recommending this place to my friends...
