Disappointed repeat customer won't be back
I used to like these guys a lot and have purchased several appliances here over the decades. This fall we decided to use some of our wedding gift money to splurge on a high end dishwasher from Asko. Sadly it has been a really bad experience. This 1000 dollar dishwasher has been worse than our decade old Maytag that was half the price.
I understand that expensive major appliances are a pain to return for many reasons, and at first this store acted like an exchange would be easy. We had spent a couple months trying to get it working so were thankful that they were willing to be flexible. However as soon as the sales manager got involved they changed their tune. They ended up telling us to "sell it on facebook and buy another one from them."
Of course this is a ridiculous and unacceptable answer. We did everything right, supported a local store and paid extra for a supposedly good model. We did this with the expectation that we were valued return customers and would be treated right with a personal touch. It has been a really sad feeling to have the opposite experience and be treated worse that at the chain stores. It doesn't make me want to support other local businesses either, knowing they don't actually care any more than the big box corporations.
What really drives me crazy is that instead of getting a fun wedding present we can be proud of, it was a total waste of money that now we have to stare at every day. Johnson Brothers has shown zero care in making sure our purchase worked out or met their original sales claims, and continues to seemingly blame us for not understanding how to use it. Sorry but I've read the manual many times and rinse every single thing before running it half full with the best detergent and rinse aid, yet stuff still comes out dirty!
I can't believe I paid over 1000 dollars for a dishwasher that takes a lot more effort to load and doesn't clean the dishes, compared to its cheaper competitors! I'm not trying to get a refund, just an appliance that works, and to be almost treated like a criminal by Johnson Brothers has been really hurtful and caused tension in our marriage. I cannot recommend them if this is how they treat loyal return customers :-(
Edit- I find it hard to believe this has only one view in three...
Read moreI went into the store, knowing what I wanted and I waited to be helped. After being ignored for awhile, they had the new guy help me. The salesman was new but courteous and helped me decide if my installation plans would work. I had already spoke with a heating and sheet metal company and an engineer about my plans. Other than the new guy having some difficulty getting answers to my questions from other employees, everything was fine.
When I went to pick-up the item, the salesman told me the manager wanted to speak to me. Not realizing I was being ambushed, I answered a couple of rather rude questions about my installation plans. The manager/owner then proceeded to insult, berate and humiliate me about my installation plans for something like 10 minutes. I would try to explain my reasoning and he would go off on another tirade. His reasoning didn't make sense, until I realized he assumed I had a gas range not an electric one, even though I had clearly said it was electric. It was obvious he wasn't listening to a thing I was saying. When I was finally able to point this out that I had an electric stove, he blubbered and then said well it still wouldn't work. I had to sign an agreement that the warranty was voided to remove my new appliance from the store. Refusing to buy the item would have cost me a heavy "restocking" fee.
When I later hired and told this story to a reputable contractor, he laughed, and said it was typical. He, and another subcontractor, said there would be no problem using the product the way I wanted. I have NEVER been treated in such a rude manner by a store employee. He at no time, tried to be helpful, answer any questions or listen to my comments. He also treated his new salesman in a very rude manner. The original salesman agreed with me but waited till his boss was gone to tell me. I would tell any female customer to stay away unless you want to be ignored, treated like an idiot and insulted in front of everyone by a bully!! I can't think of a single reason to return to this store. The owner was Rude!! New kitchen is finished and my original plan worked out great! Thanks for nothing, Johnson and Bros. My pictures are on Houzz. I have no affiliation with any of this stores employees or any of their competitors. This is an...
Read moreUnfortunately my experience with Johnson Brother’s was not the best. I bought a dishwasher from them in 2020 and that experience was great- they got it out to me in a week when no one else was making deliveries in a timely manner due to Covid.
However my good experience stops there. Last year I bought a washer and dryer from them, which was a significantly spendy purchase. The sales person convinced me to buy a previously returned washing machine to bring the overall price down. That washing machine motor burned out immediately and since it was still under their warranty they came to fix it but it took several weeks. At the time I was about to have a baby and had a toddler and two big dogs to clean up after so you can imagine the inconvenience this caused.
Since that repair, the machine has been finicky at best. It would often stop in the middle of cycles and would occasionally not spin out clothes. I should have returned it while I had the chance. This week it stopped working completely and we are about to move. I called Johnson Brothers and told them I’d be happy to buy a nice new set from them for the next house if they’d simply replace the one I have with anything that works- it could be used, it could be of Facebook Marketplace, I don’t care. Just something that works to get us through the final month in our house.
They refused saying my machine was past its warranty by 3 months and they wouldn’t do anything to fix the issue, and inadvertently told me with that decision that they didn’t care about my future business. Now I either have to take time out of preparing to move with two little kids in tow to find and re-install a replacement on my own, or limp through the month using a laundromat every other day until we can move.
Not what you’d expect from a local company who says in their mission statement that they “strive to conduct their business with respect, integrity, and excellence.” And that you’ll “find them to be different and better than the average appliance store.”
If you want to buy from an appliance store that won’t stand behind their products and won’t go even slightly out of their way to keep your business, then shop at Johnson Brothers. If you want appliances that actually work,...
