Odd Fellows Antiques — Local services in Berkley

The store has some very unique pieces however, one of the employees is quiet rude. I had $300 worth of antiques I was buying today and an $1100 chair I put on hold to go measure. I was also looking a picture and asked if they can negotiate on the price. A worker woman said “she can offer 10% off but I have to name a price”, so I did. I offered $150 on a picture priced at $270. I offered $150 and said we can negotiate from there. That’s how negotiating works. She nearly flew off the handle. Saying “she knows how the business works” and “that’s 50% off” and blah blah blah. She wasn’t going to call the owner to see if he would take it or negotiate. I said, “THEN DON’T”. I left the store and will never return. I was willing to purchase everything today but you can’t ask someone to “name a price” and then say that’s not good enough. For someone that “knows how the business works” she surely didn’t want to sell anything. I would’ve liked to know “how the business works” but all she could tell me was that she could offer 10% off and for me to name a price. God knows how long that stuff has been sitting there. very cool store, unfortunately one of the employees was extremely rude to me(the other was pleasant/neutral). i don't want to write the store off completely from this experience because i did have a neutral (but negative leaning) encounter with the same employee the previous time i was here and people (especially those who work with the public) are allowed to have bad days, but i cant come back to the store after this, it had left me crying. but the store is super unique and has a really wide array of items. ideally i would give it 2.5 stars, but since i can't do that i'm giving them 3 for the benefit of the doubt because a store shouldn't be rated on one persons poor treatment. i don't know this employee, so i don't know if my two trips to this store are representative of who they are, and there is a chance i was just too sensitive. def check the store out but maybe prepare yourself to a potential rude/mean encounter(i want to make it clear that the other employee i ran into was a very lovely person...

I could not love a place more than I love Odd Fellows, I never leave without purchasing at least one nice surprise for myself. There are many collections that cover the spectrum from obtainable to aspirational (for most 😂) but the prices are very fair. I’m reluctant to share because I don’t want the competition for finding my specific items of interest but we must keep it in business! I have never had anything but wonderful intersections from staff and they are always prompt when providing service. I could sit and talk to everyone there for hours.
