Who doesn't love themselves a Blizzard or a dilly bar in the summer? If you answered "no one under 99 in Berkley," you would be right, and you will learn this fact if you dare to approach the drive thru on any day of the week between April and October. DQ serves up the typical soft-serve ice cream, thick blended shakes, and ice cream with more cookies in it than the cookie aisle at Meijer. You'll find this outpost well-staffed by happy teenagers harried somewhat by the pace and popularity of their franchise. I've heard it not-jokingly said DQ is the most profitable business in the city, and that may be borne out seeing what it was valued at on Zillow.
That said, spare yourself the agony and order ahead or go in person after walking up from one of the municipal lots on 12 Mile. The traffic backups on weekends or Friday night going eastbound on 12 Mile are horrific, and there's always one entitled yahoo who blocks both lanes of traffic trying to get through. Going into the shop is mildly more controlled. Traffic being snarled and teenagers on bikes completely oblivious to the risk, or bad drivers shoving their ways in, just make for a definite headache.
That said, you'll get your order usually correct and made with skill and enthusiasm by the hard-working staff. They manage ENORMOUS volumes with a lot of dignity, probably collapsing into the freezer in exhaustion when the last swirl cone leaves at the end of the day.
Sadly this is NOT a brazier and it's not open during low-volume...
Read moreSo I thought when a business is franchise the prices should stay the same and the rules. This place has a mind of its own since new ownership took over. I kept saying I wonât come again but it sucks itâs the closer one to my parents. They didnât participate in the free cone day like all the DQ. And their prices are much higher than all the other places. To purchase sm vanilla cone and peanut parfait and I paid $11đŚđŚ like seriously there was huge line and I didnât want to hold everyone else and argue about that then. The work area not clean and messy . It didnât look like the owner or manager was there Bcâs 4 high school age kids were working only and hardly catching up to the ppl. Iâve seen the messiest cones given to ppl some w melting chocolate syrup and drizzling Down and the boys is trying to clean it and another w tilting vanilla Ice-cream đ¤Śââď¸ these kids were trying but the front cashier was overwhelmed it seems by the crowd. Do t waste ur time here go find the next DQ nearby. I was going to give 1 start but I gave two for the kids who were trying...
Read moreI was working down the street. me and the kid decided we were going to get an ice cream.. We pulled up I had to repeat my order three times. I ordered two chocolate ice creams with sprinkles large for some reason it was like $13 didn't make any sense but I handed her a 50 and she looked at me like I gave her a million dollar bill.. she had no way to break a $50 on a Friday at 3:00.. so she gave my money back and I had to pull off and look at my order through the window.. side note for a large ice cream the cone was bigger than the ice cream if you get what I'm saying. It looks like there was something wrong with the machine it looked like I wasn't getting what I paid for. I googled the prices and it said $3 and some cents for a large ice cream now I understand time to change but $13 seems like a lot for two ice cream cones that weren't even big and we didn't get to enjoy that they ended up throwing out.. I'm not going back.. maybe I was just lucky that she didn't have change for a 50 in the middle of a...
