Not a great experience, unfortunately. The host refused to sit us in 'the patio' section with the roll up windows because we didn't have 4 adults (2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant), despite having 3 open tables in that area. Then they didn't even want to sit us at one of the other tables on the floor, and insisted we use a booth. We had a stroller with us for the infant, and it would make more sense for us to have a table so the stroller wasn't poking out into the pathways. Considering the waitstaff is often seen walking through the floor with multiple sizzling hot plates, it's probably wise to keep the path as clear as possible. I mentioned to the host that I would rather not have the infant in a stroller poking out into the pathways and they rolled their eyes at me as she told us to wait while she asked someone else if we could sit at a table. The atmosphere is loud due to the high ceiling, so don't count on having a conversation at a reasonable volume during peak hours. I don't recall hearing any kind of music. The food was okay - not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but tasted good, and despite other warnings online of sloow service it arrived relatively fast after placing our order. I don't think we'll be back any time soon. If I wanted someone to roll my eyes at me over Mexican food, I'll just go to Taco Bell where it's at least a teenager where that behavior is expected and not a grown adult. Makes me kinda miss Patrick O'Hillers even though their waitstaff kinda sucked too (find my review...
Read moreThe owner was my server last night. After I ordered one chimichanga with NO beans and one chalupa with just chicken and cheese I was served by the Expo who served me a chimichanga with beans and rice as well as a flat tortilla fried open faced with chicken and cheese. He said that was a tostada. I said I ordered a chalupa he said yes and sat it down. So I waited for my server (the owner) to come back and asked if that was a chalupa, he said yes. I said isnt a chalupa a different shell? He said he would check, went to the kitchen and got all toppings added to the tostada, then brought it back out to me. We proceeded to go back and forth because I never asked him to put toppings, I asked for the chalupa shell. He kept telling me that is what I ordered. I never ordered a tostada or toppings at all so he just did what he wanted to, he then proceeded to tell me that a chalupa is a corn tortilla topped with toppings, not a shell that is folded with meat. That a tostada and chalupa are the same thing. He raised his voice and i raised mine to be stern that I was not going to eat the one with toppings, he could have just told me that the tostada and chalupa are the same thing from the beginning and I would have ate it. He went and added toppings i never asked for, when i specifically said JUST MEAT AND CHEESE! I drove 35 minutes with my family to eat here because it was so good the first time, now I am enraged knowing that the money and time I spent there were wasted and tarnished the good time I...
Read moreEl Patio brings its newest outpost to the People's Republic of Berkley and it's sorely needed in a Mexican restaurant desert. Authentic Mexican fare takes centerstage on an abundant menu featuring the favourites like quesadillas, fajitas, a bevy of tacos and burritos.
El Patio's lunch deals are definitely worth it, since they serve up various plates of beans, rice, and a combo of burritos, quesadillas, tacos, flautas, tamales, and the like. They deliver quick, and a basket of chips magically appears on the table practically from the get go. Food here is robust and generously portioned, but not too much. You get a good meal without feeling like you'll burst at the seams.
We enjoy the horchata, the beef tacos in corn tortillas, and the burritos. Drinks from the full service bar cover from the familiar gamut of strawberry, lime, margaritas, and onward. Service is quick for the most part, and it's a lot of fun to sit in the front 'patio' when the windows are rolled up garage-style to let the fresh air in.
El Patio took over a space that is high and lofty, but not particularly cozy. There needs to be a second level up there to make use of the towering ceilings. A lot of TVs in the place could be a bit more distracting than you care for -- it's not my favourite -- but they've used warm colours to build...
