Berkley is spoiled for having a tremendously gifted seamstress able to handle alterations to clothes and home goods.
Magic Alterations feels like a blast from the past in the best way. The small storefront is more like going to an aunt's house where she'll take out her Serger and hem your pants or fit your special occasion dress. The atmosphere feels extremely welcoming and non-judgmental, a bit like you're family. The interior looks quite busy but the fitting area set aside for customers is comfortable and there's also seating for those who need to wait.
I brought in a damaged pillow case for my couch to be repaired after the zipper split. Despite having fussy fabric with a specific print, the pillow was fixed and a new zipper installed as if it were new. Wonderful work for an outright bargain price was something I couldn't possibly achieve on my own, and it's honestly inspired me to bring in the rest of my pillowcases to ensure they don't have the same issue. Excellent craftsmanship all around and great attention to detail with a rapid turnaround time makes this place a total gem.

I was very irritated with the wedding gown shop I worked with as they told me since I had to order custom sizing on my dress, I "might" not even need alterations done and I'd have my dress back in plenty of time before my travel date for the wedding... That was a blatant lie. The dressdwas received late from them and off the hanger, it fit like bag. After expressing frustration about this issue to the wedding gown shop, they recommended I reach out to Magic Alterations which is near my home.
Both peoole at Magic Alterations we're great to work with and they we're able to accomodate a rush on my dress after understanding that my wedding dress shopping was delayed as long as possible due to massive weight loss in a very short amount of time (80lbs within 6 months) resulting in a huge dress size difference that alterations simply wouldn't otherwise handle if I had purchased any sooner that I did.
My dress was finished on time for the initial alteration and fit perfectly after the final fitting about 2 weeks prior to my travel date...
Read moreI was recommended to use this tailor for my wedding dress by the boutique that sold me the dress. Overall I am unsatisfied. The initial fitting was fine. But my final fittings were frantic and the dress fit me so poorly, they said I lost 2 inches to my waist (no way). Then they upcharged me $100 for apparently losing so much weight.
Once that was fixed, I went in and felt rushed out of the store. Upon reflection I wanted some changes, so I called and went back in. They gave my wedding gown a “quick fix” upon request and didn’t provide me with an appropriate mirror to see the work they were doing and confirm that I liked it. They also didn’t ask me to try it on afterwards. When I got home and checked, the work was shoddy. The straps were truly unsymmetrical and a redundant eye hook was showing. I ended up finding a new tailor to finish the job. It just shouldn’t be this hard to get a WEDDING dress fitted the way I like. I feel taken advantage of. Just add that to the mountain of predatory wedding...
