Blackhawk is a very small town with really big casinos. I happen to like playing at the newly remodeled Monarch Hotel and Casino. Monarch is a newly renovated and updated property with a gigantic casino and modern Hotel. It is clean and fresh with lively casino action and games. There is seemingly endless endless slot and gaming action on two different levels and a modern sports book for game day action. The drinks flow freely and there are complimentary drink stations throughout for self service refreshments. The high roller room offers high limit action with plenty of jackpots sounding off constantly there and throughout the casino. It seems a little looser play at the Monarch than other casinos in town. There is a 24 hour restaurant and that is a big plus. The buffet is gigantic and the food is fresh and good. The rooms are newly remodeled and very clean. The new ownership runs a very tight and professional operation and the staff is very friendly. I give the Monarch max stars for the wonderful times I have had there with zero complaints. The casino is very large and covers a lot of square feet, so I recommend the proper transporting device if you have problems walking great distance. I think the only downfall the casino has is not having wheelchairs or electrical transport devices available for people who are immobile or have difficulty walking. They certainly could afford it. The Property has a very nice multi level parking garage that is free to it's guests. Lastly, I have won a lot of money there and that is the icing on the cake. I highly recommend a stay and play at this resort...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI hate to say that the casinos we visited just arenāt what they used to be. The only saving grace was the Lodge casinos buffet and that wasnāt even what I remembered. Though steeply priced around $50 a person, you get a pound of crab legs per person and besides that the salad and desserts were the only other things that were actually good. The Mardi Gras is gone and itās now Ballyās which when we walked in seemed like a ghost town and didnāt have much to offer. We started at AmeriStar which also seems less popular than it used to be. We didnāt visit the regular ones we used to go to just to see what the others were like now, now I kinda wished we just stuck with what we used to always visit when we were up there. I hate to say but Central City has been better than what we experienced down in Blackhawk. I guess on the up side we will be saving more money not making as many trips as...
