I have never been more insulted as I was when I went in to see Craig to get a piece of jewelry appraised. I had spoken to him twice over the phone, and he seemed very nice and trustworthy. When I went in to see him, my husband went with me. My husband is from Jamaica. Although I had already talked to Craig on the phone and had told him about the jewelry I had been given, he immediately changed his tone with me in person. He said that the owner of the jewelry “would probably really like to have it back”. He said that he would not be able to buy it unless he had a signed letter from the previous owner. I couldn’t believe it when I realized that he was insinuating that I had stolen the jewelry. I told him that I was a respected person in this community, but that I was not going to stand there and defend myself to him.
