Island Bagel and Deli — Restaurant in Bluffton

Walked in and The cashier was less than friendly, but I really felt like a bagel and thought I would give this place a try. I asked how much the bagels were, and was told it depends which one I choose. I never heard of different bagels being different prices. I’m from New Jersey. We don’t do it like that there. But whatever, we talked price and I placed my order. At that moment, he picked up a greasy half eaten chicken leg and started eating it, he then wiped his hand on a greasy napkin that he must’ve been using all day long because it just looked greasy and dirty, and then he looked at me, and I said, are you going to make my bagel with that greasy hand? He said no I’m the cashier. I hesitated, thinking I would give this man cash and he would make change and give it to me with that dirty greasy hand. I told him forget it and I walked out. No one in there was friendly, no one had a smile on their face, everyone looked miserable, and then that guy eating a big greasy chicken leg as he attempts to help a customer, that was the straw that broke the camels back. Absolute worst experience of my life! My family of 4 went in and 3 got in line to order while I tried to sit down at one of the many open tables because I have heart failure and cannot stand very long. Suddenly the manager came running over stopped me from sitting down & said I wasn’t allowed to sit until I got in line to order. I explained that my family was already ordering but that I simply needed to sit down and he raised his voice at me while all other customers are now looking saying it didn’t matter and that I either got in line or I need to “get out”. Since I barely was able to walk to the restaraunt without my wheelchair I then had to leave my family who were standing in line to order and walk back to the car unassisted and was so upset and humiliated. Read the other reviews and you can see that This establishment hires individuals who won’t even serve people based on their sexuality or having any type of disability. I hope they get sued and their business is closed. SHAME ON YOU-DISGUSTING AND BAGELS WERE HORRIBLE! Don’t waste your time...

This is, evidently, a very popular deli as they were doing brisk business when I arrived. I ordered the steak and egg bagel sandwich. The bagel was OK, the egg was OK, and the "steak" was not OK; it was dry and tasteless, and was not what I expected. The place is small and cramped and not designed for eat-in dining. I loved the music they were playing, classic rock, but it was too loud, and I like loud music but not in a deli. My experience here was not good. Maybe this place has some good food, but if I decide to give it another try, I will definitely call in a pickup order. Overall impression: overrated. Note: I appreciate the owner's response, and I gave more detail about why I did not like the steak. More importantly, the response shows that the owner cares about the food quality and about the customers. So, maybe my experience was an anomaly, and I will give them another try when I'm back...
