Bonita Springs Community Pool — Local services in Bonita Springs

On 3/16/23 our family went to the pool for the first and last time. Our 12 yr old grandson has downs syndrome. Is 13 yr old sister and parents were also with us (grandparents). The children went right into the pool. The parents were getting ready to go in and were at the side of the pool right by the kids. Within a few minutes the older lifeguard came marching over to the father, and said, “ he has to put a life jacket on. I’ve been watching him. he can’t swim more than 3 feet”. The boy happens to be on a special needs swim team and swims the length of an Olympic pool. He was just playing and having a good time. Mom & Dad were right there. There was no way that child was in any danger. The lifeguard clearly misjudged the boy and handled her “concerns” very rudely and unprofessionally. Upon leaving later that afternoon my son said she owed him an apology. She said she didn’t owe him one and the other 2 female lifeguards immediately began arguing with him. My point: This was a situation that could have been handled politely. She could have suggested that he swim for her. Instead she was rude and condescending. I left a message with the rec director asking her to call me about something she should be aware of and never heard back. .

It is unfortunate that my grandson is judged and targeted. The elder lifeguard needs anti-bias and...

Not happy that the pool is never open past 4pm Monday through Saturday.. and NEVER EVER open on Sundays. ESPECIALLY during summer!!

Some of us work and would like to use the pool after work or on the weekend days....such a bummer that our taxes pay for something we can't use.

And Your "smart mouthed life guards" that tell me that the reasons are-1 because they don't have enough lifeguards...2 because they cant find ANY of the 4 lifeguards on duty DAILY when you are open can work past 4....and 3 (my absolute favorite) IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A LIFE TOO...said to my face both the last few years and in the last two weeks.

Oh..and #4...because no one comes after 4..or Sunday...thats hilarious considering they have to kick people out of the pool and force them to leave 15 minutes before 4pm because they have closing duties. - DO YOUR CLOSING CRAP AFTER YOUR CLOSED. We literally PAY In taxes and pay to go there.

This crap is long over due to be stopped. BONITA DESERVES BETTER.

...not hiring someone to work later then 4 is unacceptable! for this long time resident.(AND NOT JUST ME, OTHERS DEEL THE SAME WAY HERE IN BONITA)

YOU HAVE 4 LIFEGAURDS ON A SATURDAY - FOR WHAT??? THE TEN PEOPLE OR LESS THAT ARE THERE???

YOUR people cant be structured to work in shifts???? Or Sundays????

We pay for this...and you barely give bonita anything to...

My daughter, her 20 mo.old, her neighbor with her baby daughter and myself just got back from a beautiful 3 hour afternoon at the pool! We started out headed to our community pool in San Carlos Park. (Karl Drews;Lee Co Parks and Recreation) To our dismay, it was closed today and tomorrow. So...Not worry, lets head to Bonita! We made a great choice...
