WOW. My mouth is still hanging wide open. I am still in shock by how we were just treated by Yesenia Judice, the owner.
Two coworkers and I just decided to go to La Rancherita to have some tacos on our lunch break. Each of us ordered two tacos, different ways.
When our order came out, my friend mentioned that she only asked for two tacos- not three. Yesenia sharply looked right at her and said - "No you didnt. I have it written right here - you wanted three". My friend said "I'm sorry, but I know you wrote it down but I really did just say two tacos". The owner just shook her head and walked away- in the middle of my friends sentence. When she passed by again, my friend asked, "Do you want to take it back?", and Yesenia simply said "No." We thought nothing of it, figured she would take it off later.
Then, the same coworker noticed she didn't get the things that the menu says are included- "All tacos include: onion, cilantro, lime, and salsa on the side" (direct quote from the menu). She had a nice tone when mentioning it, but the owner Yesenia frowned and told her "you didn't ask for that". She responded, "Oh, because I thought it already came on it". The owner snatched the plate pretty fast and briskly walked away, seeming annoyed by the request.
At this point we felt pretty uncomfortable, but just kept eating. It wasn't unusual for that particular woman to have an abrupt demeanor - she always seemed that way with all her patrons.
But the end of the visit is what really has us still beside ourselves. When the bill came out, some time had passed. We all took our cards out to pay our bill, and my coworker noticed she was still being charged for three tacos. The owner was nearby, so she said to her, "Excuse me, three tacos are still on the bill. Would you please fix it for me so it says two?". Yesenia looked straight at her and said "No". My coworker responded "Excuse me? You wont take it off the bill? But i only asked for two..". The owner leaned in and in a louder voice said "Nooo. I am not, I had it written there - you asked for that". My coworker asked, "Is there a manager?". Yesenia responded "I am the OWNER". My coworker said "Is this how you conduct business and treat your customers?". Yesenia then snatched the receipt right out of my coworkers hand, crumbled it up in her face, and said "DONT COME BACK".
We were in shock. Then, to make matters worse, as she was about to take our 2 cards and checks to go process them, she turned to us and said, "You need to go to expensive places to eat", and stormed off. We still couldn't believe how bullied we felt while eating at this establishment.
When she came back with the check receipts, she stood RIGHT over us tapping her foot, as if rushing us out. Once the checks were signed, she snatched them both and shouted "DON'T COME BACK AGAIN!" We are a group that enjoy good food, no matter how big or small the restaurant. But we are truly APPALLED at how that woman treated us and basically ran us out of the restaurant. I feel so bad.
Never have any of us been BANNED from a restaurant nor HUMILIATED in front of all the other guests. Such a shame. Do not give this woman your business if you expect to be treated like a decent human being. In writing this review, I should let you know that in we have been long time customers, and always leave hefty tips. I dont see why we hold no value to La Rancherita as repeat customers who always send friends their way....
Read moreThis place was awesome! A TRUE hole in the wall Taqueria! half of the building is a store, and half of it is a sit-down restaurant. They're really well separated so I barely felt like people were browsing and watching the eat which was cool. The food was absolutely delicious. I got two carnitas tacos and a chicken quesadilla. Everything was juicy and flavorful!
I love finds like this which is why I gave it 4 stars..but it doesnt have 5 because towards the end of the visit we saw one of the ladies who works there take the salsa that was on our table and put it back in the fridge. So if you're super concerned about that stuff I would skip this place..but I'll be back for sure if I'm...
Read moreLove this place, the owner is a really cool guy who has some Mexicans on staff that really know how to make excellent tacos. If you want to go anywhere else in southwest FL and think you are getting real Mexican food, forget about it, stop kidding yourself and get some real tacos. If you want greasy slop from some Iguana "mexican", taco bell, or some other chain with counterfeit "mexican" made and invented by gringos, then this is not for you. If you want a piece of paradise transplanted directly from Mexico into Florida, then this is your place, however, if you're not sure what authentic Mexican food is, you may be surprised, but trust me you will love it. ...
