This place makes me want to quit photography. Standard prints are garbage. But my biggest complaint is the team that works there. Clearly a lack of knowledge and basic communication skills. I had to send a camera back to Nikon to get fixed, shutter wouldn't work. I was notified by email that it was going to cost more than the deposit. I called and spoke directly to a human to confirm that I would like to move forward with the repair and agreed to pay the additional amount. A few weeks later I got another email saying the same thing. Confused. I called again and found out my first phone call was never relayed but was assured now that now they had the (second) confirmation the camera would be done in about a week. Couple weeks later, I called back again to see if camera was ready and was told that I had a remaining balance that could not be taken over the phone so therefore was holding up the repair. I was furious. I was not told this information the two times I spoke to someone on the phone nor was it in any of the emails. My next available day to go down there in person to make the payment i called first and talked to the manager (thankfully) who assured me that the camera wasn't ready because of delays on Nikon's end not the pending additional cost and that is charged when I pick up the camera. So... Did that other employee lie to me? Or did they just not know what they're talking about? Either way I'm heated.
Ended up taking about 11 weeks. I was told 3 to 8. It would have been done in that window had the team communicated with each other. All I wanted fixed was the shutter but according to receipt they also serviced the whole thing without asking. Happy that I will never have to call or set foot into this place ever again. Upside is they're lack of competency and quality is inspiring me to buy my own...
Read moreA mixed bag, but still worth a visit
I recently visited Hunts Photo in Boston to find a new camera. I was immediately impressed by the helpful staff who took the time to understand my needs and even suggested I wait a week to take advantage of their tax-free "roadshow" event. This level of customer service was truly unexpected and appreciated.
I ended up purchasing a Sony a6700 and two used lenses (Samyang and Rokinon). The prices were significantly lower than any other store I'd researched, including big box retailers. This alone made the trip worthwhile.
However, my second experience at the store was less positive. The staff seemed rushed and less attentive. I specifically asked if the lenses were up-to-date, and was assured they were. Unfortunately, upon returning home from my vacation (the reason I bought the camera!), I discovered that firmware updates were available for both lenses. I ended up having to buy a lens mount online specifically for updating them. This was quite disappointing, especially since I had explicitly asked about updates at the store.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about Hunts Photo. The initial experience was excellent, with knowledgeable staff and unbeatable prices. However, the lack of attention to detail and inaccurate information during my second visit left me feeling let down. Despite this, I would still recommend Hunts Photo, but with a caveat to double-check any information and not expect the same level of service on...
Read moreI had such an amazing experience at Hunts camera on Commonwealth Ave in Boston. It started with Danny over 5 different telephone conversations we had over a 4 day period, and finished with Jesse when I was at the store to make the purchase. I’m a 65 year old man with zero photography experience. The last camera that I owned used 110 cartridge film. Obviously I had loads of questions and some being very stupid I’m sure, however during those 5 days of calls Danny NEVER, NOT ONCE, lost his patience with me and answered EVERY question like it was the best question that he’s ever been asked. lol After he was able to determine what setup was going to suit my needs the best , he presented to me. I was all excited but once I saw the price I knew this wasn’t going to be possible. Danny asked if I would consider a used one in excellent condition if he was able to find one. I agreed to his solution and he called me 2 days later with a pleasant surprise, he found exactly what I wanted and it was close to a thousand dollars cheaper than the new one. He arranged to get it shipped to the Boston store. That’s when I met Jesse cause it was Danny’s day off. Jesse helped me and spent close to an hour with me showing me how to operate my new toy, and he never lost patience with me either.I walked out of that store, no I actually ran out of that store all exited to use my new camera. I cannot thank Danny and Jesse enough for making this experience as fun as it should...
