This place is a rocker’s dream. The hotel used to be a Howard Johnson, the remnants of which are still part of the charm. It’s now converted into a boutique rock ‘n’ roll, one-of-a-kind hotel. It’s the cutest little vintage, retro, rock and roll place. When you check in, you start feeling like a rock star. The check in desk is located in a small sun lit front office with records stacked to the right for customers to choose to play on their record players in their rooms. I felt like I was transported back to the 70s, in a nice nostalgic way. 2 desk clerks will do the usual and ask for your ID and cc info to check you into one of their regular rooms OR if you’re lucky, into one their limited availability, special luxury backstage trailers 👀🙌🏽 They have uniquely decorated and number-plate-identified “backstage” trailers parked outside of the normal hotel building. Even the normal hotel rooms have floor to ceiling beautiful stained glass windows. But it’s the coolest experience to stay in this luxury stationary backstage trailer with heated floors and rain showers, 43” TV with Bose speakers, and a vintage record player 🙌🏽. The best part is that the trailers are so close to Fenway park, you can literally hear the game and the crowds cheering. You feel like you are a part of the festivities from the cute seating area right outside your backstage trailer. If you’re lucky enough to find availability of one of the few backstage trailers, you get a special card key that allows you exclusive access to the backstage trailer area which showcases the actual trailer Tom Hanks used while shooting some of his movies! The hotel’s location is in such a great place, one can have a week full of activities, especially surrounding baseball. The pool is a quaint little retro one located in the middle of the property. It is normally always occupied with excited customers. They also have an on-property sushi restaurant, Hojoko, which is known for their amazing Wagyu Cheeseburgers and Funky Chicken Ramen. Definitely a must...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to splurge on one of the backstage trailers for our anniversary. On the one hand, it met or exceeded all of our basic expectations for a hotel; the room was fantastic and extremely comfortable. The staff were excellent, highly receptive and helpful. Our room was decked out and personalized and helped make the weekend extra special. And the location is a huge plus - right down the street from our concert venue with plenty of great eats and drinks around (plus the proximity to Fenway is a big plus, especially during the on season). I would love nothing more than to say that I will certainly be returning to and recommending the Verb.
That said, one expectation that the Verb did not meet was their main selling point and the primary catalyst for our decision to stay there: the record library with the turntable in every room. The initial fun and excitement of flipping through their record collection and building a mini soundtrack for the weekend quickly turned into disappointment when every single record we took back to our room was badly scratched and damaged almost beyond playability. Of the over a dozen records we tried, not a single one was playable for an entire side, and most of them started skipping on the first or second song. Eventually we gave up on the records altogether, which was frustrating since we didn't bring any additional entertainment, having banked on the music being our primary entertainment for the weekend. For whatever it's worth, the gentleman at the desk was very receptive when we brought this up and did mention that they are investing in a machine that will refurbish the records (and I understand the hotel staff can't always be held accountable for the way their guests treat their property), but in the current state I'm not sure that I can say that we'll make such a splurge again.
Great place, great location, with great dedication toward making guests feel like rock stars. It would just be really nice if the...
Read moreI chose this hotel for a super surprise for my son's 30th birthday celebration. If visiting Fenway Park is any part of your trip to Boston, you cannot get closer to it than staying at the Verb...you can see the Bleachers from your room! So, it is about a 3 minute walk to the park.
I have traveled all over both for work and fun, have stayed in hundreds of hotels and have honestly never, ever been treated as warmly and made feel as welcome as we did at The Verb.
The ENTIRE reason for that is the team.
I made reservations months before, but the pampering actually started the day before I arrived. I received the most beautiful phone call from Front Desk Producer, Carley Williams. She wanted to know all about the upcoming trip and what she could do to make it fabulous, and make it fabulous she most certainly did!!! She went above and beyond in every way to make me, and my son (the birthday guy) feel so, so special. As you can see in the photos it started with his name in lights when we arrived (totally Carley's idea) complete with a visit into their awesome backstage trailer parked out front where he was invited to sign a guitar, joining many cool signatures. The royal treatment continued every day, with Carley daily hand-picking albums (yes, vinyl!, there is a turntable in every room!) --she had already determined my taste in music--which I SO enjoyed. The room was full of personal touches for us, and all I can say is I felt like I was staying at a friend's house, a great friend who was going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and happy.
If you love visiting Boston - Stay at The Verb If you love baseball - Stay at The Verb If you love Rock n Roll - Stay at the Verb
If you love feeling warm, welcome and pampered - Stay at The Verb
...and tell Carley that Melinda...
