Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday, and overall, it was a satisfying experience. While there were some ups and downs throughout the meal, the highlights made it a somewhat memorable celebration. To start, we ordered the Yaki Sea Scallop. While it had a pleasing buttery texture, the flavor fell a bit short of expectations. It was enjoyable, but didn't quite deliver the wow factor we were hoping for. The Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken Wings also left something to be desired. The batter was slightly over-seasoned, making them a bit overpowering on their own. However, the dipping sauces provided a much-needed balance of tanginess and sweetness, redeeming the dish. Thankfully, the Toro Tartare was exceptional, and it paired beautifully with the salty seaweed. Among the rolls, the Spicy Scallop Maki stood out as a personal favorite. The generous amount of buttery scallops and smelt roe created a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. It was a delicious and satisfying bite. On the other hand, the Blue Ribbon Maki, despite its expensive ingredients, failed to impress. It ended up being an average and overpriced roll that didn't live up to the upper-middle tier sushi spot reputation. The quality of the nigiri was also a bit underwhelming. While some pieces were decent, the standout was the Anago (sea eel) nigiri. It was incredibly tender, with a delicate sweetness that paired perfectly with the accompanying sauce. At the end of our meal, our server surprised us with a small piece of chocolate mousse cake, a thoughtful gesture to celebrate the birthday. Though we were too full to fully enjoy it, we appreciated the gesture and the overall service provided throughout the evening. Overall, Blue Ribbon Sushi offers a decent upgrade from typical neighborhood sushi spots, but it may not blow you away. While some dishes, like the Toro Tartare and the Spicy Scallop Maki, were exceptional, there were also average and underwhelming elements throughout the meal.

There's a unique atmosphere with good food and an interesting interior at Blue Ribbon Sushi. While a bit pricey and limited in seating, the quality of the sushi is excellent. The tempura was perfectly fried, sauces were well-balanced, and all the sushi and sashimi were expertly prepared and presented. Great for seafood lovers with the wallet to support their more expensive appetites.

Full Review: Stepping into Blue Ribbon Sushi in Boston at night, you're immediately struck by the dim lighting and the unique interior design, which sets a cozy and intimate atmosphere. While the restaurant is not large and seating can be a bit limited, it adds to the overall charm and exclusivity of the place.

The menu at Blue Ribbon Sushi is focused on high-quality seafood, particularly sushi and sashimi. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food more than justifies it. The tempura, for example, was perfectly battered and fried to a crispy perfection, without being greasy. The sauces accompanying the dishes were flavorful and complemented the seafood without overpowering it.

The sushi and sashimi selection was impressive, with each piece expertly cut and beautifully presented. The freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and it's clear that the chefs at Blue Ribbon Sushi take great care in sourcing and preparing their seafood.

While dining at Blue Ribbon Sushi may not be an everyday indulgence for most due to the prices, it is certainly worth it for a special occasion or a treat. If you're a seafood lover looking for top-notch sushi in Boston and don't mind splurging a bit, Blue Ribbon Sushi is a fantastic choice.

Came here for a first date. Glad I planned ahead to make a reservation because it was pretty crowded on a Friday night. I Loved the semi-underground ambiance with mellow lighting in the dining room and accent lights highlighting the sushi bar. We got lucky with the seating arrangements that allowed us to sit next to eachother rather than across. For food, we ordered the seared scallops appetizer an array of individual nigiri pieces and a couple of sushi rolls. Starting with the scallops, this was the highlight of the meal for me. I loved the meaty flavor and buttery texture that was perfectly balanced with a subtle level of seasoning with the sear. We then moved onto the nigiri, which I felt the quality of the sushi fish felt right for the price. It was fun to try the different varieties of fish. And finally the sushi rolls we got were yummy. It really stuck out to me that this was better than your average sushi experience when I realized how much tastier the rolls are with a higher filling to rice ratio.

In summary, I’d definitely save this place on your list of sushi to try in Boston for the diversity of options on the menu and the beautiful dining area. But, do expect to pay a pretty penny for the level of quality and service.

Also note this place is connected to the lobby of the commonwealth hotel but also accessible from the street...
