After getting a recommendation to come here for laser hair removal, I tried to buy a gift certificate for my daughter to get a series of treatments for Christmas. I called on the phone to select the best package, and after discussing the treatment options, I went into the salon to purchase the certificate. However, upon entering the salon, they realized I was black and told me they couldn’t do services on black skin. Apparently, this salon has chosen to invest in equipment that only allows them to service the white portion of our population.
I’ve lived in Boulder for 40 years and it’s disappointing to me how many businesses in this area do not choose to invest in the equipment or training that would allow to them to do treatments on black skin and hair. I realize we’re a small portion of the population, but we have money too.
If this company is choosing not to purchase equipment that allows them to service people of all colors, they should be transparent about that on their website, on their menus, and over the phone. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a laser that could only work on white skin, and if I had known I would have asked if they had one that worked on all colors, but I shouldn’t have to ask. I should be able to assume I can walk into any business that offers services to the public and not be turned away because of the color of my skin.
Thankfully, the nice girl at the desk referred me to Aesthetic Solutions in Lafayette, who DID invest in the lasers that work on black skin, and they have been GREAT! Shame on Barris laser for choosing not to offer services to black and...
Read moreI had been to Barris once for a facial several years ago, which I really enjoyed. When I started investigating laser hair removal, I thought of them first. So far I have had three treatments - one on my underarms and two for my bikini area. I'm very happy with the initial results!
When I went in for an initial consultation with Dana, she made it very clear as to what my expectations should be regarding how many laser sessions I would need to fully remove the hair in these two areas, and she also was very patient with my questions about the procedure.
My first laser session was with Dana, and my second session was with their new esthetician, Sami. Both of these women were very professional and nice, and did a great job of both distracting me with conversation during the slightly painful treatments and still managing to check in on my comfort level often. The salon is nicely decorated, clean, and calming. It's also great how they run frequent specials on all sorts of different treatments like waxing, laser, facials, etc. I definitely...
Read moreI went to Anna for my first ever face treatment - RF microneedling. Many online articles (by other clinics) described the experience as only very mild discomfort, so I was not expecting actual pain. However, as a redhead, I have a very low pain tolerance and found the pain to be intense. Anna was wonderful, taking breaks to ground me, talking me through the procedure, and making sure I knew she would stop anytime I asked her to. Afterward, she took great care of me, and discussed options that could reduce the pain if I ever wanted to do another treatment (arrive earlier to let the lidocaine cream soak in longer, avoid the RF which makes it more intense, etc).
All in all, I couldn't have asked for a more caring and professional practitioner, and, I'm liking the...
