When I was in a band many years ago we played a show here. It was a really cool place. So when it was time to find a venue for our wedding/ceremony my fiancee wanted The Clazel.
Aesthetics: The Clazel is an old theater converted into an event venue. It has modern amenities with a classic unique feel. It felt clean and taken care of. We had a theme wedding: Mad Hatter Tea Party. This place was perfect for that. We asked for red table clothes and red mood lighting. It made it perfect. Along with the rest of our decorations, this place was amazing.
Coordinator: We worked with Cat Crites. She was amazing. Very accommodating. She answered all our questions. Walked us through everything. Allowed us to spend as much time as we needed pre planning (being at The Clazel). We needed a few special meals for guests with allergies and other issues. It was no problem she made it happen. Cat was wonderful. For our special day she was there ready to go. She was always available and was taking care of things before we even thought of them.
DJ: Unfortunately we have been to a lot of wedding with bad DJ's. The DJ can make or break a wedding. If they play the wrong songs or don't get people interested in what is going on the guests won't have a good time. Not with DJ Diamond Lee! He is an awesome DJ.
DJ Diamond Lee is their DJ for events (but he not just limited to The Clazel). He is freaking amazing. He had a word document with a bunch of questions for us. We were worried since we weren't traditional that he wouldn't get us or our style. We were wrong.
For every traditional thing we shot down, such as common line dancing songs, or basic wedding games. He had a unique replacement.
We couldn't have asked for a better DJ. He was a big part in making our wedding awesome.
We gave him a list of song we liked and he picked up on our musical tastes right away. Perfect segues between all the different things that have to happen in a wedding. Knew exactly what to say and played music that got people dancing and having fun. We couldn't have asked for some one better.
Next event we need a DJ for, we will be calling him.
Pricing: We couldn't believe the bill when we got it. It was way less than we expected. We had got quotes from several other places in NW Ohio. Most we about half our total at the Clazel just to rent the place. The prices for what we got, were very reasonable. Things like linens, dinnerware, staff, were included in the price.
Food: The food was very good and very reasonably priced. We got to keep everything that was left over.
Bar Service & Staff: Everyone was very professional. They were on top of everything but didn't get in the way. A lot of the staff actually came up to us after and told us how awesome our wedding was and that they really enjoyed it.
The Extras: There were a lot of little things that the Clazel did. Custom marquee message, allowing for floating candles in the fountain, special seating arrangements, and more. We even brought special straws for the drinks and they used them. We also wanted snacks before the ceremony and after dinner. Which they did.
All of our guests expected our wedding/reception to be awesome because we know how to throw a party. But it is different when you are at a venue and have to rely on others. The Clazel didn't disappoint. Cat, DJ Diamond Lee, and the staff were awesome. They went above and beyond what we expected and could have asked for. We were very happy! I'm sad we can't get married again. But there are always...
Read moreI picked this venue because it was beautiful.. when I had my wedding the ceremony went great and then everything went downhill. The chicken was raw and was served twice raw to family and friends. I had people get sick from it. Then I was informed the beef and noodles were cold. After this horrible experience I go to use the bathroom and it started to over flow in there. The smell was awful and a lot of guests were informing me of this. Then next I hear my boss said the staff were only use to serving college students and never served people for a wedding.. after this many guests left early because they were hungry so they went to get food. We started to have our dance which was cut short because the whole dance floor flooded with sewage water. My husband slipped when hugging a friend and went outside not knowing he slipped on sewage water. So from 7-10 the whole dance floor wasn’t really available to be used because it was sewage water. This whole time the floor was getting mopped up... not sanitized but mopped to get rid of water. My mother in law asked to moved all the cupcakes, popcorn, and pretzels to the higher bar so people could eat them and she was told it’s not there job. Then my brother had toilet water sprayed all over him. Did I mention I was the bride? I tried to hold it together because you never get this day back. Well the next day I got ahold of them and asked for money back and I was offered a little bit of money for the food.. I’m so insulted by how the owners handled this situation. I posted my review on the page and they deleted it. Well google doesn’t delete ... Don’t go here for a wedding bc you won’t get refunded and I don’t want you to experience what I had too... my dress has sewage water all over the bottom of it also... I’m so embarrassed for the people he came and upset how the owners...
Read moreMy husband and I were married there in 2015 - thought I wrote a review back then but apparently I never did. We were just talking about all the terrible things that happened and what we wish we could have done differently. The venue is beautiful, but that is the only thing it’s got going for it.
There was supposed to be a bridal suite for me to get ready in - I tried to see it three times before the wedding and they always said that I couldn’t for some reason or another and then on the day of the wedding, they told me a pipe burst and it wasn’t available. They refunded me the money, but the fact that I never even got to see it tells me that there was probably an issue long before my actual wedding day.
We made a couple requests to slightly change the food and they told us that would be fine and then ignored them.
I provided a seating chart so they would know which tables should be numbered what - they ignored that and set the tables up in no particular order so my 80 year old grandfather in a wheelchair had to move tables when they cleared them out for the dance floor and we had super distant relatives right up by the stage and close family all the way in the very back of the venue - I was mortified!
All in all, this review is 4.5 years old now so maybe they’ve gotten a lot better, but Cat Crites is who we worked with in the beginning and she didn’t follow through on anything. Then we started working directly with the manager or owner - I can’t remember his name, but he said all the right things to make us feel better and then he didn’t come through with anything on the day of either.
I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. If I could do it all over again I would start with a new venue. The setting fit us well, but it just wasn’t...
