My family and I have been loyal patrons of Trotters ever since the Brown's era, when it rivaled high-end establishments like Morton's or Smith & Wollensky in Chicago. My brother would even make the drive from Indianapolis just for a meal here, underscoring our deep-rooted appreciation for what Trotters once was. Sadly, under its third change of ownership, the restaurant has strayed far from its former glory.
The previous owners seemingly lacked an understanding of Trotters' storied past and the culinary excellence it was known for. This disconnect is now painfully evident. The iconic "Brown Jug" steak, once a buttery-soft marvel, has deteriorated significantly in quality. Gone are the days when the steak was free of gristle and fat—hallmarks of the Brown's tenure. Even the second owner maintained the quality of beef, but alas, that standard has not been upheld. Now, it appears we're served inferior cuts, lukewarm and drowning in what barely passes for gravy. The second owner couldn't get the thin sauce or the sizzling skillet. The sauce now is absolutely disgusting.
Moreover, the current management has decided to overhaul the classic bar area, a move I find completely misguided. The charm of Trotters was its timeless ambiance, something that should be refreshed, not reinvented.
The staff continues to be wonderful, but their efforts are overshadowed by missteps such as the lengthy ordeal to replace a simple soda cartridge—something the apparent owner struggled with throughout our visit.
In summary, this once-great pillar of culinary excellence has lost its way. The "Brown Jug" steak, a legendary dish that defined Trotters, is now just a shadow of its former self. Perhaps, in time, I might consider stepping in to restore its legacy, but for now, it seems the spirit of what made Trotters a beacon of fine dining has been all but extinguished. I explore the new owner to find the original experience. Including a nice piece of chocolate on your payment tray. It's now a store purchased Andes mint. It would seem they're more interested in making changes in the wrong area of the once amazing...
Read moreFor many years, my family and I have enjoyed Trotters Tavern. My out of town family often picks Trotters as their restaurant of choice when they come to Bowling Green. Last Saturday one of my brothers madec reservations for celebration dinner for my mom who is 94. There were six of us at the dinner. Immediately upon ordering we were told there were no chicken breasts available. We arrived at 6 PM, So there was no excuse for a long night of chicken orders before we arrived. Very disappointing. We ordered our dinners at approximately 6:15 pm. At that time my brother told our server that we needed to Leave by 7:40 PM for another engagement. When our dinners failed to arrive by 730, we attempted to cancel the dinners, but we were unable to do so. We never touched a bite of our food. The dinners were packaged up, but we were in unable to take advantage of them That evening as we had another engagement, as we reported earlier to our server. At no time during our wait, did our server come to our table and give us an update on our meals. Afterwards we were told that the manager contacted the owners and nothing was offered, not even an apology for the inconvenience and most importantly, the expense. Consequently, no one in my family will choose trotters again. And that is very disappointing because we have been frequenting the restaurant for...
Read moreEdit Let me say this. The owner of this establishment is deleting my tags about this place. Greg and his son are a joke. As owner you have control on whats displayed on a receipt. This owner chose to put his servers first and last name on a receipt but has the courage to call me out for using the first and last name. After reading what he had to say about our experience is a disgrace. As a owner you take negative experiences and learn from them. You take accountability. I hope this review shows you what a 1 year of ownership treats their customers.
Started off waiting 10 minutes before hallee Shepard came to the table to get drink orders. Once she came back we order rueben eggrolls as a appetizer. They came out and we put our order in. The eggrolls were still cold and cheese wasn't melted. The cheese burger was so salty I couldn't even eat it. My girlfriend ordered the 3 piece cod and it came out with 2 pieces instead of three and it mushy and tasted terrible. Hallee never once came to check on us and see how the food was. We had to approach here to bring the bill. When she brought us the bill I told her about the burger being to salty to eat. Her response was im sorry. No manager or nothing. Bill was $55.00 and only ate $20 worth of food. This place is a joke. I DO...
