CrossFit St. Louis Testimonial:
I’ll be 69 on Feb. 27th. I joined this CrossFit-St. Louis Box in 2017 on the advice of my brother, who is 9 years younger than me. He's been doing CrossFit for over 15 years and he’s no “spring- chicken”, either ; ).
I have always been an average athlete, was never a heavy weightlifter and an average-paced runner. When the athletic genes were being passed out very early on, I was skipped over, for no apparent reason ; )
After spending over 50 years doing various exercise routines trying to keep in some semblance of shape, I finally found the perfect match for me in this CrossFit St. Louis space. At the beginning of my CrossFit journey, it was uncomfortable, mentally, because 98.9% of the other members around me, both men and women, were on average 50+% faster, stronger and many were stand-out accomplished athletes in HS and or College in all sport categories.
BUT, the coaches, trainers and members at this CrossFit St. Louis Box showed me how to properly “scale” and taught me to focus on MY personal goals and not everyone else’s, which is hard since competitiveness at many levels is a natural human trait.
ALL of my Boomer friends today look at me like I have 3 eyes when I tell them I do CrossFit. An “outsiders” perception and the media reporting on this sport is hyper-focused in part on heavy weightlifting and constant injury management. But with the right coaches/trainers/members, (of which this Box more than offers), one learns from the very beginning to lift weights safely and perform the CrossFit WOD (workout of the day) movements in a safe and scaled way in order to maximize the personal benefits of these movements without injury. Once past this stage of learning and practicing CrossFit, the benefits of this sport far outweigh the usual humdrum, half-baked exercise routines that my “senior” Boomer age group practices.
Make no mistake, it takes a while to see the benefits. In the beginning, after about 8 weeks of attending classes about 4 times per week, I got over my fears and anxiety of this CrossFit sport and became ONE WITH THE BOX. At this stage of the game, as long as I stay healthy, I never see varying from this CrossFit Saint Louis routine. It is a full body workout every day. And I am better for it physically and mentally.
If you are a healthy person, regardless of your age, my advice is to try it. At the start, most CrossFit Boxes have what they call an ON-RAMP… a few classes with a personal CrossFit coach/trainer to walk you through the movements to see if you can do it safely.

Read moreLast year, I faced a tough setback when I fell down the stairs, dislocating my shoulder and severely tearing my labrum. Surgery and months of physical therapy followed, helping me regain a decent range of motion, but I still felt far from my pre-injury CrossFit capabilities.
That’s when I joined CrossFit St. Louis after some time off from a previous CrossFit gym—and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The coaches here are phenomenal. They guided me through every step of rebuilding my strength and mobility with thoughtful programming and personalized support. Thanks to their expertise, I’ve regained nearly my full range of motion, can do strict pull-ups again, and have even eased back into Olympic lifting—something I didn’t think I’d be able to do again, especially as I approach 45.
What sets this gym apart is not just the top-tier coaching but also the incredible community. Everyone is kind, welcoming, and supportive, whether you're brand new to CrossFit or, like me, returning after a long hiatus.
If you're looking for a gym with knowledgeable coaches and a welcoming atmosphere, CrossFit St. Louis is the place to be. I’m so grateful for their role in my recovery...
Read moreCrossfit St. Louis has absolutely changed my life. I joined in 2023 after my doctor made it clear I needed to make some lifestyle changes. Since that time, I've lost over 100 pounds (see before and after below!) and I'm stronger, faster, and more athletic than I've ever been. As a former college athlete, that's truly saying something! The coaching staff and other class participants have been absolutely inclusive and welcoming, both to me and everyone else I've seen come in over the last couple years. It's a community of people who have not only pushed me to be better, but have rallied around me both in times of celebration and times of difficulty and I'm thankful everyday that I get to be...
