I’ve spent thousands of dollars on appliances from Karl’s in Brookings over the last decade and had been satisfied with their selection, prices, and service. Unfortunately they’ve gone downhill in the past couple years.
After throwing money into parts and labor for a dishwasher they couldn’t fix last year, they sold me an in-stock dishwasher and called me shortly before the scheduled installation saying that they didn’t actually have it in stock. I rescheduled the install and they didn’t show up. After asking for a refund the salesman was able to pull some strings and get it installed the next business day.
After the expensive LG fridge I bought from them 6 years ago died this past weekend and ruined everything in the freezer, the service department immediately told me I’d be better off buying a new fridge despite some parts still being under factory warranty. After pushing them to look into repair, I got the runaround (over a week to get someone out to diagnose and then another wait on parts and return service for repair, likelihood of extensive labor costs). They said they would look into my warranty status and get back to me with a final estimate, but never called back. When I inquired about purchasing a new fridge, the salesman said they would not be able to get me on the delivery schedule for 11 days. Read moreI agree with JC. I bought a freezer a year or two ago. Within a few months is started making this knocking noise. I called Karl's and they sent someone out. We figured it sounded like the compressor but the appliance guy said the fan in the back was hitting on something but there wasn't much he could do except jimmy rig it. He said if I kept having issues to call back. Well within a few days it was making racket again. I called him back but never heard from him again. I REALLY wish I would have pushed the issue more(but figured he was more knowledgeable with it than me, even though my husband had been adamant that it's the compressor the whole time!) as now the compressor has stopped working and it's under 2 years old. We ended up with another issue with it when it was just under the year warranty. When I called Karl's they said they couldn't do anything about it as the warranty started from the day we purchased it and not from the day we picked it up, which was about 6 months later(bought during COVID stuff). I ended up calling kuiper appliance in Watertown(I highly recommend them!!) and they got it done under warranty(it kept freezing up so the fan wouldn't circulate the air, which is a common problem with this freezer)!! Thank you Kuiper appliance(they had never heard of a warranty starting before you received it so I think Karl's blows a lot of smoke and wouldn't trust them!), not Karl's!! Read moreLocal buyers beware and stay away from "Karls" Brookings, SD. We purchased many items from them for our brand new home purposely choosing a "local" company. Since then we have problems with our stove, refrigerator and dishwasher. I have had several service calls on our expensive dishwasher. After our 3rd service call shortly after receiving our dishwasher I requested to have it exchanged as I thought it was a faulty product. I was told I couldn't exchange. Now 1 year has expired and it needs a new motherboard, which has been the problem all along, and now I'm told they can't exchange it because it's out of warranty!!!! The lady who takes all the calls is very demeaning and condescending every time we have called in for service as if we're inconvenient in her work day. I don't remember the last time I have wrote a negative review but this situation is so egregious I just can't let people that work hard for their money spend it at a store that will not stand behind the products they sell, as I was told by this lady who works there,"its not like we build them"! Trust me I could go on and on but this is long enough. Please if anyone has an idea of what to do going forward, please post. There is no way I believe we are an isolated incident.
