The grey haired lady at the front desk is rude. I asked if the sauna was open because numerous times in the past I have paid only to discover that it’s been closed. She said “it should be “,as a public employee I would expect a higher level of service and professionalism, and would ask that you confirm and tell me a simple yes or no I’ve been patronizing this facility for over 20 years today I was asked what city I live in for the first time in all the years that I have went there and declared that I lived in the city adjoining Brooklyn Center I thought they may want be wanting to record that for statistical purposes I was charged eight dollars for my daily fee I asked, did the price go up that used to be five dollars she said rudely to me “the price went up and you’re not a resident of Brooklyn Center therefore you have to pay more for not being a resident” I thought this was a community center that served its community and the surrounding communities. The sauna is in in a state of disrepair with visibly rotting, wood, mold, and mildew. The inadequate, unprofessional, and obviously inexperienced youth lifeguards are rude unprofessional and non-attentive the Lady at the front desk was the head lifeguard for many years, so this culture must be being perpetuated . their policies for the use of the waterslide vary from lifeguard to lifeguard my nine-year-old daughter has been allowed to use the waterslide sometimes by certain staff and other staff has denied her use of it in the same visit even though she is at the required height level not above or not below she was spoken rudely to buy a aggressive, female lifeguard, who ordered her to go back down the stairs and told her she could not use it when just moments before another lifeguard said she was perfectly fine to use it and that her height was adequate so she used it , i asked why is she being restricted from using it when she just used it when the other lifeguard was watching the water slide and she told me that that is the other lifeguards decision her decision was that she could not use it .When I pressed the subject wanting to discuss the specific policy behind her reasoning, she told me she was not going to be discussing anything with me and she was done talking to me. There was some subversive profiling going on in my opinion ,my Little girl burst into tears and went to the locker room when we left, she said Dad, I always wanted to be a lifeguard but after the way that girl treated us I don’t wanna be a lifeguard anymore That’s a shame that a little person would feel that way. The lifeguard watched this happened and made no exception or apology Obviously she doesn’t have apathy or children. I used to come in during my lunch break to have a quick swim. There is a group of older men that swim together and have for years during lunch. I was using the center lane of the pool and had been there for at least a half hour prior to when they took the lane over one man swim over the top of me, kicking me in the face as I was swimming and I was told that it is their lane and they use it every day I told him what he just did was assault and he said good luck . I complained at least four times to staff about this aggressive action of these individuals and every time I came back they were there doing the same bullying method of controlling the lane they wanted to swim in, even if others were already there prior to .This is a public facility for the public to use and it has no private reservations for the use of the space in the pool during lap swimming , these are public employees. Their job is to serve the public show kindness and compassion to all first and foremost and they have failed at this task and I am saddened to say that there have been too many questionable instances and unanswered questions I and my family...
Read moreHaving been a resident of Brooklyn Center for twenty years, I have been through the doors of this Community Center literally thousands of times! I have brought all four of my children there for top notch swimming lessons in their beautiful OLYMPIC SIZE swimming pool and water slide, dance lessons, enrichment classes of every kind imaginable, holiday festivals and more. Three of my children became certified swim instructors and lifeguards there and have been employed there as well.
In recent years the fitness center has been updated with state of the art equipment including treadmills, bikes, stair steppers and more, each with capabilities of using blue-tooth devices for listening to music while you work out, as well as a variety of free weight body building equipment. The studio overlooks the swimming pool with full view windows, and there are also televisions for viewing overhead.
The Community Center also has large gathering rooms for special events, a beautiful park with baseball fields, play equipment, and a gorgeous, newly built amphitheater for music and more. The park is connected to the Hennepin County Bike Trail system which spans for miles in every direction.

Edit: Last time I went swimming with 3 little ones, between ages 5-8, and an older girl, age 13, the lady at the front desk only put a wristband on the 13-year-old. We were in the kiddy pool for almost 2 hours and then 20 minutes before we were planning on leaving, one of the lifeguards made me and the kids with me stop what we were doing and asked if we paid. I told him that I did and he questioned me about the whereabouts of our wristbands. I told him that the lady only gave the teenager one and that I have a receipt if he would like proof, but he said no. He had us wait for him to go to the front desk to confirm if we did. After almost 10 minutes of waiting, the lifeguard came back with wristbands and insisted that we put them on even though we were already planning on leaving very shortly....
