Artist? Creative individual? Stay at home parent that likes to engage your children with crafts instead of video games? You're heading to the right place. Hyatt's is artistry heaven. They have everything from my personal favorites, paint markers and high end graffiti grade rattle cans, to artisan quality hand made paper, pastels, chalk, pencils of every color and make pens, fabric and leather paints, acrylic, oil, even top shelf uber expensive writing instruments for but certainly not limited to calligraphy. I could keep going but I'm pretty sure you get the drift. The staff is diverse, knowledgeable, friendly and definitely seemed to understand when to step in and help and when to leave an individual alone to sort through this creative space on their own. Prices are all over the place but such is typically the case in a place like this. If you want to spend $15 and walk out with crayons and colored paper for the kids, yer all set. If you wanna drop $500, $600 on rattle cans for your next mural they got you covered there as well. Good media has never come cheap. Most people know that much. The facility is cavernous and laid out extremely well. All departments mesh into each other so your never at a loss for what's around the next corner. This was my first visit but it definitely won't be my last. I've lived all over the place in my time and I've never been in a store anything like it. I could show up at opening and stay til close and probably spend every available penny here and not be in the least bit upset with the experience. They have coupons at checkout and a worthwhile loyalty program I'll definitely be taking advantage of. I highly recommend Hyatt's to any artist of any level you will not be disappointed I...
Read moreMy beef with this store is not so much what is inside. Although their stock is over priced, and their staff are a bit off putting at times. I've been made to feel like the staff was mocking me more than once. Perhaps not maliciously, but sometimes unfunny teasing, is just teasing. Again, I was not offended, but it certainly made me feel awkward.
My real problem with Hyatt is how they treat the community around them. While their listed address is Main St. They get all their traffic through North Pearl St, which is where I live.
Their shipping and receiving is on North Pearl st., so me and my neighbors who work from home are stuck listening to trucks beep and honk all day while they make deliveries. Along with some mysterious weekday 5am truck that makes huge crashing sounds for 15 minutes straight and wakes everyone up. On top of that they have 18 wheelers almost daily backing up in to the lot, and due to the limited space our tiny residential street affords, they have consistently ripped branches off the trees. The trucks also cause traffic congestion as they block the street for 15 minutes trying to get just the right angle to back up and drop off a tiny box. When my neighbors asked them to try to get smaller trucks to do all their deliveries they were completely ignored.
When I confronted them they gave me a pretentious response about how they've been here 50 years and I don't know anything about this area.
Having read the other reviews its clear that if you go in and buy what you want you'll probably have an okay experience aside from over paying. But similar to the other negative review, the moment you need to deal with the company itself, you'll be treated...
Read moreRecently went in and felt like I was being watched. I was asked if I needed help and responded that I just wanted to look around to see what they had, outside of maybe a sketch pad, I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for in particular. The attendant let me know about the items on sale which was great. I proceeded to browse the store, actually looking for some sketch pads or something similar, but open to anything else I might find for a personal project.
As I proceeded to browse, every time I looked over my shoulder, the attendant was standing there watching me. I thought it was strange, but at the same time, not really, considering all things. I proceeded to move toward the paints in the back and now she was at the table "straightening" up a few things. Well, by this time, I for sure knew what was happening and decided to exit the store and head to another art supply for what I needed.
Needless to say, I will not be patronizing this business again and won't recommend it to anyone either. It's always interesting to me, when you find businesses that move into a majority minority (or what used to be majority) neighborhood and then act like you're surprised/afraid when we enter the store.
I'm not sure if the lady was the owner or just a salesperson, but I recommend investing in some customer service and diversity training and most of all A...
