Ann Hope's Corner by Peter Rabbit Consignment — Local services in Burlington

We have been going to this location for several years but we will not be returning after our last experience. Hopefully this review will save others from suffering the same poor treatment that we received.

We dropped in really fast to get some hair bows to match a new outfit for our daughter. During the visit, our 2 year old daughter was playing with some of the toys as my wife picked out the hair bows. (We ended up buying several of those toys). While she was playing with them, the cashier and the owner's father kept making comments under their breath about her playing with the toys. She is a 2 yr old in a used clothing and toy store with toys scattered all over the floors. Of course children are going to play with them. It was very immature and annoying but we let that one slide.

However, during our visit my wife got a very important work phone call. Since the store is not exactly a quiet place, she stepped outside to take the phone call. Our daughter and myself stayed in the store and continued to shop. However, the owner's father felt the need to follow my wife outside of the store and stare her down while she was on the phone. He made her feel very uncomfortable with his angry stare. My wife realized during the phone call that she had walked outside with (3) hair bows, so a total of $6.00 worth of merchandise. Once she realized that she had the bows, she came back inside and handed them to me so I could buy them with the toys we were getting our daughter. She even told them that she was sorry, that she was on a very important business call. We expected the owner's father to apologize for his rude behavior and he did approach me but only to question why my wife still had something in her hands. Apparently he is too busy judging people and being a jerk to notice what they are carrying when they walk into the store, because all my wife was holding was the dress that we had walked into the store with to match hair bows to. He just sort of mumbled under his breath and walked away as I continued to pay for our merchandise. On the way out of the store he made another comment that I do not remember exactly but as we were getting in the car to leave, my wife asked what was wrong with the older gentleman in the store. I explained to her that he apparently was accusing her of trying to steal the dress that we already owned and had brought in with us. She went back in to explain that to him and he just continued to insult my wife and blaming her for putting him in a "bad spot" because she walked outside to take a phone call, in clear sight of the front door while the rest of her family remained inside the store. He never apologized for his behavior or attempted to remedy the situation but instead just continued to argue with my wife and insult her character. Finally my wife just had to leave because she recognized his ignorance in the situation and it wasn't worth the damage he was causing. I understand that he is the owner's father so he probably has very little knowledge or training in proper customer service or running of a business. However, if he is going to be the one in charge while the owner is not there, they might want to consider getting him some proper training and learn to apologize when he treats a former loyal customer like a criminal. I've shopped here for almost 3 years but today was my first time bringing things in for credit. The owner Kristy I believe was friendly and helpful as always. The older gentleman even asked if I needed help bringing carrying in my 2 year olds larger baby items we no longer use but have been holding onto for too long. The prices I got were very fair and now that I know how it works I'll be bringing all my donations here for store credit. I always end up getting clothes and shoes there for my daughter anyway. Everything is clean and they have the best prices. And I really appreciate the customer service, it's something I pay attention to everywhere I go and I love to give a shout out and recommend Ann...

Ms. Sherri was very helpful today! It was my first time visiting the store and though she hasn’t been there very long, she was bringing me up to speed with things I didn’t know anything about! Such as brands, their system and process of their discounted items. Being a First time Mom I was all ears! They have everything you could ever need, want and then some! Not just for infants, they have things for the entire family! Formerly working at a daycare this place would be a great stop for teachers, parents and anyone looking to buy some great second hand name brand items for growing children. I will be back!
