Ladies especially, please read. Really upset that I have to give a negative review. The owner is seemingly a sweet older gentleman, but something is off.
I live down the street and needed a cocktail dress altered so I chose this place out of convenience. While fitting, I felt him lift my dress very high and watched him sneak a few peaks up the back of it (I was watching in the mirror). It made me very uncomfortable, especially since we were there alone. In my head I thought, it’s fine, I’ll just get this done and won’t return. Creepy and wrong - Strike 1.
Before leaving I asked what the cost will be. He said “normally $20 to be taken in, but since you want it shortened too it will be $40.” I said ok, no problem.
I came back the following week to pick it up at 10am when the shop opened. The lights were off and the door was locked. After waiting outside for 10 mins, a woman came out of her car and said “Are you waiting for the tailor shop? I just got off the phone with him and he said he won’t be in until 12:30pm.” Unreliable - Strike 2.
I stopped in a few days later to pick up and pay. I didn’t try it on because I was in a hurry. I asked how much I owed, having a feeling he would be sneaky and try to change the price. He said “It’s $60.” Hmm... ok, so $20 more than you said 2 weeks ago? That tracks. I let him know what he told me verbatim, and he said “Well it’s $60, but I’ll let you take it for $40.” Unethical - Strike 3.
Later when I tried my dress on at home I realized that he’d taken in too much width and length. It went from a sophisticated dress to a tennis dress. I also noticed the clasp above this zipper is hanging on by a single thread. Poor work - Strike 4.
You only get 3 strikes before you’re out in baseball, but apparently 4 in the game of tailoring. Very disappointed to...
Read moreI am a classic 46 long and wear doublebreasted suits. In the past I wanted to have the sides of my suits taken in to make the suits be more form fitting. I was told "oh no we can't do that as it's not worth it and it's too much work and would be too expensive!" That was two years ago. Custom suits were way too expensive so I went to Jacks and WOW - what perfect work he did on my Navy pin stripped suit, navy blazer and tuxedo (all double breated , of course). I also had some of my USCG Aux uniforms made to fit me perfectly. Jack saved me hundreds upon hundreds of dollars by him doing all of my alterations. Oh, and by the way, he is a perfect gentleman and a joy to work with, indeed. If you need advice and or alterations for your garments, Jack...
Read moreMy sister has been using Jack forever so of course I went to him for help making a bathrobe perfect for her birthday. Jack was amazing helping me figure out the best way to get it done and he had it ready super quick. He also worked with me on the pick up time since I work late and waited for me to get it. I was concerned because his store had a strong cigarette smell but nothing smelled when I brought the robe (wish was super luscious and stayed in his store for over a week), so please don't let that deter you; he is very careful and takes great care of your garments. Jack, my sister LOVED the robe and slippers! Thank you so much for making...
