Once Upon A Child Canton, MI — Local services in Canton Township

I took 6 bins in about a month or so ago and was only returned 5. The bins had the store stickers on them: “1 of 6” etc….bin 2 of 6 was missing and never to be found. I turned in unopened toys that went missing, they weren’t returned to me yet the store “doesn’t have them”. One build your own Discovery Channel set to build a little car. One door ping pong game. An unopened doll. These are the items I can remember, I’m sure there’s more missing. Also, an entire bin of clothes. On the final receipt the person who added it all up stated 5/5 bins were checked and returned. No one could tell me why. After hours of going back and forth it was determined that a brand new toy horse I brought in was the missing 2/6 bin. No. It wasn’t. I have stuff missing never returned to me yet when I called to talk to the assistant store manager to check if my missing items were bought by them (only an hour earlier) they now can’t tell me what they bought from me as it had already been “dispersed through the store”. 🤔 The lady put me on hold and went and looked for my missing items and came back and said that they’re not in the store. After all this was said and done the ONLY thing I asked for was to see the video of me walking into the store with my bins, to prove that the horse was indeed the missing “bin 2”. The worker had mentioned earlier “we have cameras everywhere, trust me, they’ll be able to look at the footage and see”. So, why can’t I see? The owner called me the next day and left a voicemail about how her kid is sick and she’s sorry she couldn’t call me earlier. I called back as soon as I saw the voicemail, left my own voicemail stating I was sorry her kid is sick and obviously attending to our sick kids is priority and please just call me back when she can. She never did. I asked to see the video, not sure why she couldn’t record the clip on her phone and allow me to see, once and for all, how many bins I brought in. To set my mind at ease. When I dropped my bins off it was very busy, multiple people dropping bins off, tons of staff behind the counter doing their things, perhaps there’s some funny business going on during busy times where people steal the brand new stuff to sell themselves online? Only thing I can think of. All I know is this: people: when you drop your bins off make sure you take pictures of your stuff, document your stuff (especially the new stuff or stuff with tags still on), count how many items you are turning in and make sure you stand there and watch them check your stuff in (I left as soon as the lady handed me my receipt stating 6 bins yet they weren’t all “checked in yet” behind the counter-my fault, I should have known). I will never utilize this chain of stores again. I’d rather sell it online I was just too lazy this time around and trusted people to do what they say they do. One last thought: they are not paying you according to the calculator they state they use on their online website. They accepted 87 items from me and I made just a few cents less than $120. That’s about $1.40 per item. I had 6 snow pants worn1-2 times each, countless new toys/gadgets , and beautifully taken care of washed and folded boys/girls clothes that were each separated by size. I took time to organize my stuff to make it as easy for them as possible. I’m not happy. Please don’t shop here. Excited to see what the owner has to say in response….

Very nice clothing. The rewards program is amazing you sell they buy and will turn it into store credit you can get rid of the clothing your child no longer fits and buy new wardrobe for your child. They have amazing prices that are extremely fair. Try to sell clothing for the next coming season to get the most value for them. Kids toys are always in great shape and furniture is already built.

Update 7/10/2022 about 3:00pm: I've been shopping here for years and I have never experienced such terrible customer service here EVER! This store keeps one shoe in the front and one shoe behind the counter to prevent stealing. While shopping I noticed a shoe in the bin behind the counter, the bin was labeled 2,3,4 it was a boy shoe. I went over to the bins to search for the shoe but I could not find it in the bins for 2,3 and 4 sizes. I went back to the counter and asked if I could find out what size the shoe was so that I could be sure that I was looking in the correct bins on the floor. The person I asked used a very loud voice with me and said NO! I needed to locate the shoe in the bins that are on the floor. She yelled so loud that another employee entered the conversation and seconded the statement that the pervious employee stated. I explained to her that I just wanted the know the size of the shoe. Because all that searching may be for nothing, if it is not the size I need for my child. The second employee then told me it was store policy to not tell me the shoe size, which sounds sooooo made up. I then asked her if she could then help me find the shoes since I couldn't know what size it was. She huffed and stomped towards the floor bins(making it obvious that she was irritated) and began searching. While she searched she mentioned that all I had to do was look in the bins labeled 2,3,and 4. She pulled them out aggressively and slammed each one back in. She looked in each bin I had looked in previously when she couldn't find it she then began looking inside of every bin on the boys side. She then went to the girls side of the shoe bins and began to look in those bins too. She did not find the shoe in any of the bins. When she finished m, she simply told me it must be lost. I then asked again if I could look into the bins behind the counter to see if I could find the shoe size, of a different shoe that I was interested in. She asked a manager who was on the phone texting at the time. Manager loudly asks her coworker if I was even going to buy some shoes (that comment was wildly offensive). The manager allowed for me to look through the bin but warned me that this would be the only time I could ever do something like this. (Looking at shoe sizes to make sure the shoe i see, is worth me tracking it down) The staff lady brought the shoe bin to me and I began to look through the bin, the staff lady took about about 3 steps away from me, and the manager yelled to the staff lady "STAND OVER THERE AND WATCH HER!" ( offensive!!!! I was not stealing, just trying to shop) I did find some shoes that were in my children's sizes and I went to retrieve them from the floor bins. I also bought them. I wanted the manager to know that because when I was purchasing my items she was busy playing fooling around on her phone. TERRIBLE STORE AND CERTAIN EMPLOYEE .... first off I have NEVER wrote a review in my life but I was so upset during my visit that I had to warn others. I am also a very easy going friendly person that gets along with others very well. This particular employee at this store was so extremely rude and prejudice that I am still fuming right now. I went there with many products and I feel from the minute I walked in she was being so picky and obnoxiously RUDE! I was so insulted by her demeanor and way she looked at my baby products. I am a VERY clean person and she threw such a fit over tiny little stains. My products were very clean and I was so upset the way she treated me and my sister. And then how she picked through my sons like new clothes made me sick. And her every response was "sure" "sure". Well I took it with a grain of salt until we looked around at their items they had for sale. I wish I would have took pictures to show all the stains and actual DIRT in one of the swings they had for sale. And then told me a brand new angel care monitor in the original box and packaging was recalled but yet she couldn't show me where it said it was recalled at. The thing that made me more upset is the way she put the monitor back in the box and packing. Just threw it in there to where the box wouldn't close. Usually something like this wouldn't upset me but this lady had no customer service nor personality. Please be careful and warned before you go there and waste your time. They give you garbage prices for nice items. I have honestly never had such a bad experience, and for being a first time customer you would think she would have been friendly. She was not even approachable. Will never return. She should have some repercussion for the way she treats customers. I would recommend anyone to do their business and shopping elsewhere!...
