La Tienda Thriftway — Local services in Carlsbad

Both the girls at the bakery and the deli were rude. I would rate the tacos and the girl at the Mexican Bar 5 stars, but the woman working at the deli was so incredibly rude I left in disbelief at the customer service. It's usually not bad there, but she was just so terrible. It was like I was inconveniencing her by having her do her job. I even tried being super polite and making a joke to try and lighten her up. She didn't acknowledge my thank you's. My fiance made a mistake in what he ordered so I jumped in to correct it and, I was then treated like an idiot. Wish she was wearing a name tag so I could have addressed it with La Tienda directly. However the girl at the taco bar was pleasant and so was the rest of the staff in passing. The tacos were good like always. But deli girl ruined my visit. I'm sure with this being Carlsbad it will not change, seeing as how you're lucky if you get decent customer service almost anywhere you go...

Really good burritos and tacos at the burrito bar. The store itself stays open later in the evening, but the burrito bar closes at 2:00. Really wish it stayed open later. Tortillas, chips, and taco/tostada shells are made fresh in store. The deli also has real food, not just fried items or sides from a tub like the other two grocery options Carlsbad has. You have to get it early, through. Oilfield workers wipe it out fast--just like they do every where else in town. Only two complaints: 1)You really have to check the expiration dates on stocked items. I'm always finding items way past their expiration date, and 2) the parking lot is pretty bad. Small spaces with too many oilfield trucks trying to get as close as they can to the entrance. Also, way too many people flying through the parking lot using it as a shortcut between Canal St and...

The manager of the store here in Carlsbad donated a platter for my mother's Li ing Memorial service with very few questions and ABSOLUTELY no stress. He and La Tienda made a very trying and difficult time a much better experience to bear, and a nicer reception for my mother. I can't say enough good things about the manager or this store for going above and beyond the call of duty to hell a dying individual who has helped so many in the community have a much nicer celebration of the life she lived. Isn't it amazing that the smaller company in this town could do this when the multi-billion dollar corporation of America's richest family wouldn't? Thank...
