Our visit to Glazed Expectations started off great. My family and I arrived, greeted, and instructed about set up. The owner was professional and personable. She explained everything that we needed to know to get started and explained that her other staff would be there to assist after she left. Jess was the staff that we were left with and her demeanor and attitude left much to be desired. She was obnoxious and condescending, traits I don't expect to experience from staff ever let alone when engaging in an activity that cost us $30-$60 each to paint something that I'll likely throw in the trash. However, such is what we do in spending quality time with our families. There's not much to ask except for what to do once finished painting. We received all of the instructions for setting up. The location is rather quaint, so there's no way that an attentive staff could not see when we were approaching the end and looking around confused about next steps. Well that is a staff who cared to assist...obviously not Jess. So after my mother sat there for an hour finished with her project. She approached the sink, marked employees only just two feet from where Jess sat doing absolutely nothing, wash her utensils, placed them where they belonged and sat back down. Never once did she say no ma'am we'll take care of that or anything. Once I finished and sat for 30 minutes waiting for instructions, I approached the counter where she sat hosting two other staff members in gripping conversations. She saw me standing there and never broke conversation as though she were talking to another customer not two other staff that should have been attending to the group of children sitting bored. I say excuse me because clearly I was invisible, she says "yea." I explain that we're finishing and what are we to do next? She says, "You need to blow dry it and then bring back for me to wrap." Why do I need to blow dry it when you sit doing nothing at your place of employment just 12 inches from a blow dryer that I clearly saw you using earlier in the day. I leave and attempt to turn on the blow dryer which I can't turn on for the life of me and not one employee moves to assist. I return to the counter met with annoyance, eye rolling and short obnoxious responses for only my second question of the day. Completely unacceptable!! Needless to say that I won't be returning and refused the glazing just to avoid having to deal with aggravation of Jess again ever. I love Carrboro and the small shops but have never experienced...
Read moreNot the most relaxing atmosphere. The background music that is played is very strange. The owner (?) is very obsessive compulsive about things (paint, no one can use the sink, lots of rules). The studio fee is pricey, and the additional fee for the specialty glazes is surprisingly steep. It seems like she is trying to get people finished and up and out as quickly as possible. However, they do have a nice variety of items to paint, and have them ready for pick up fairly quickly. We love going to a place where you can really relax and paint--if you do, too, this isn't the place for you. If you're going with a couple other people, the Mad Platter in Burlington or Klaystation in Raleigh is completely worth the drive, less expensive and waaaay more fun, and there's no extra fee for the specialty glazes at Klaystation and they carry the appropriate base...

Each ceramic piece has a penciled price underneath that INCLUDES the firing/paint/studio fees. They have the pieces finished within a few days and ready to pick up! One of the best things about this place is that she has an amazing playlist on while you paint! They have a cool selection of specialty paints ($2 per well) that kind of have “explosive” colors! They have silk screens, stamps, tape to make straight lines, fancy speckled and glitter paint, and so many tools to make cool designs! Here are some pieces...
