Had a nice day there today, I was there with my grandmother and my toddler son, there were quite a few young kids in strollers and wagons. Liked that they had wide aisles as we had both a walker and a stroller to maneuver, although next time I will definitely bring my son's foldable wagon so that I can have a place for my son AND all of the goodies my Nana and I bought!
I apologize now, I didn't focus on getting the business names of most of the vendors we purchased from! We got eggplant, and tomatoes from one vendor, haven't tried the eggplant, but the tomatoes were very juicy and tasteful. We purchased apricots from another, my grandma enjoyed them, but they were small and I didn't feel as if they had a lot of flavor.
We bought country bread and sesame bread from one of the bread vendors we came to. The bread vendor we bought from was set up right next to an olive oil vendor who had samples of their oil with what I believe is the country bread we purchased, both the oil and the bread were delicious! We tried the strawberry olive oil, garlic olive oil and the habanero olive oil, and ended up buying the habanero!
We bought an orange (and cranberry?) scone and a cheese and jalapeno scone from another vendor. I have only tasted the cheese and jalapeno scone, which was decent, didn't taste too much like jalapeno, but the texture was good for a scone.
The people shopping and the vendors were all friendly and we had a...
Read moreFirst visit to this market. The pluses. Lots of parking spaces but virtually everyone occupied. Very nice location at the park so the setting is quite nice. A good number of vendors but the majority are selling nicknacks and not vegetables. Several vendors selling cooked food and that was appreciated.
The minuses. The vegetable prices were extremely high. Think Whole Foods + 25%. Regular red tomatoes, not heirlooms, $4.99 a pound. A small carton of strawberries was $7.99 or $20-23 for 3 depending on the vendor. A small paper cup of flowers was $14. It was a nice group of cut flowers but the price was exorbitant.
One vendor had very nice freshly baked bread. There were 40 people in line trying to buy from them. Please add a table or more checkout people.
Cauliflower was fresh but over $4.00 a pound. Sprouts is $1.99 for the same product.
We appreciate the vendors but as noted most are from California and their prices reflect that. We will not drive from Reno to this farmers...
Read moreI enjoy the variety of craftsmanship and foods available at the Carson Farmers market. The people running the booths are all so friendly. Smile.
My only disappointement is that the organic produce runs out so early! By 10 am all the fresh organic herbs were sold out. Pout.
Farmers....please bring more!
Here is a pic of me trying on a flower crown I wove by hand at the florist kiosk the second Saturday in June at the farmers market.
The florist suggested I show children how to weave a flower crown. I have no idea how to go about sharing this small skill with others.
So I taught the florist, their assistants, and my husband how I weave one; as we made this one together while standing at their booth..
The flowering carrot tops, eucalyptus, snapdragon and lavender made for a cooling headband. The florist was kind enough to soak the flower crown with water before I left so it kept my head 'air conditioned' for the rest of my visit.
Thank...
