Update July 2023: New ownership as others have mentioned. The good: It’s heavily refreshed, interior wise, so cleaner which is very nice to see, but very plain. The bad: Prices are noticeably higher and they were already higher previously. Fries aren’t the same, different (they look higher quality but no where near as tasty), not a fan and threw half out. Bread ratio wrong now, way too much bread and tossed about 1/3 of it out after eating unless something else changed but seemed different. Sandwich taste similar but definitely not the same, as in not as good sadly. No more soda machine with pebbles ice, that stinks. $19 and change for a can of soda, fries, and 6” sub. Insane. Don’t need to go back unless it goes back to the way it was, food wise. I use to love the burgers, but imagine after getting a burger, fries and drink it will be a lot more than Juan’s burger on Carson and they gave fresh cut fries and a higher quality burger and bun. US Sub Base is pricing out their long established customers and tweaking on things that don’t need tweaking. Hate that. We’ll see if it improves.
Orig review 2 years ago:
They take pride in this business in terms of what they serve and how they serve it, as in customer interactions. They're rather quick but still keeping quality high and definitely higher than most places of this food genre. Grabbed a French Dip, fries and a pure leaf tea. It was $14 and change. Maybe 2 bucks too much, but all in all, tasty for sure. Would have again but would also consider Heidy's french dip to go, more meat and a bit cheaper I think with fries. Either way, definitely a place to keep on hand and go again. Will be trying their burger and meatball sub next!
Update: Their meatball sub and their burgers are fantastic. Extremely appetizing and flavor exceeded my expectations. Also, friend got the deep fried chicken sandwich, he loved that. Also had a cold sub last night, wow, what a sandwich! This place rocks! Don't judge the place on not being fancy, good food doesn't normally come from...
Read moreSimply put, the new owners have taken a well established gem and turned it into a lackluster experience. My wife and I have been going here for well over a decade. The former ownership took great pride in providing unparalleled customer service and also in keeping the ingredients fresh and consistent for decades. It is beyond comprehension to me and others that you would purchase a well established business, with an incredibly dedicated and passionate client base and not maintain the business model that Sub Base has been synonymous for. First impressions - cleaned up dining room, but it has a sterile feel. Much like dining in a cafeteria. Customer service - the young man, who indicated to me that he was the manger, acted like he would rather be anywhere than at work. He had a very dry personality. Zero passion! He also didn’t wear gloves while initially preparing my sandwich.
Food- bread was hard as a rock and stale. Ingredients were average lacking herbs and spices. A far departure from what a Sub Base sandwich used to be.
Judging by the other reviews, I’m not the only one that is truly sad that the love affair I once sincerely had with this amazing business is headed for an ugly divorce. I can’t believe it’s over. You cheated on me with mediocrity.
Hard fact, your guests will be pleasant to your face and give you the false impression that they will be back, but they are just being nice. They won’t be back! Don’t kid yourself.
At this point Sub Base you are not! Unless you get back to what made Sub Base the best sandwich in town, it’s just a matter of time before you’re forced to close your doors. The sub sandwich field is just too saturated for you to survive with what you’re serving.
At this point, I would rather have Port A Sub sandwich. You have no idea how sad it makes me to say that. Sub Base was always our...
Read more5 star sub and great price! However, ethics of tipping is debatable. Makes me feel some type of way, and the kids too.
Completely negates the deal a 20% gratuity.
Solution: Increase pay rate by 10-15%, as forecasted with that 20% popup. And reduce default 20% gratuitous tip Pop-ups, to a reasonable and Optional 5-10% or better yet *Zero... It's a sub shop.
Because it's not a Tip, it's gratitude in addition for a job well done, and most don't know that because it's baked into the POS system and worded incorrectly. And taxed incorrectly.
This idea Needs to be trained and treated as such. So employees don't get upset and discouraged.
But I'm being popped 20% questions and they haven't done the work yet. Or they won't do the work right if I leave less!
In addition. To the fact I came there to pickup my own order, an Order that was advertised to me as a Deal. Reduces the likelihood I'll come back to take advantage of the deal weekly creating repeated business. Thus; a better gratitude and relationship with...
