I'd like to give all young adults a warning against visiting this establishment, as the owner is very discriminatory and assuming towards young people in my experience. I visited Semoran Skateway last night with my girlfriend as a date night, her intentions to skate and mine to play arcade games as my ankles do not allow for me to skate. So I paid for her admission to skate and we entered the skating rink area. I was first told by a manager to remove my hat as "kids are not allowed to wear hats on Friday nights and hats are not allowed on the actual skating rink." However, I am not a kid â I am a 20 year old adult - and I was not skating, so my wearing of a hat should not have been an issue. So later in the night, a man, a later found out to be the owner named Carlos (to my best knowledge), comes up to me while I am playing a game of Galaga and tells me to remove my hat, assuming that I must be underage. However, since I was in the middle of a game that cannot be paused, my only response was to ask him to "give me a second," so that I could then explain to him that I am not underage. Instead of giving me this chance, he reached on top of my head and decided to take my hat off for me and then walk away. After this incident I felt incredibly disrespected and a bit violated by his invasion of my personal space and property. He then walked by a mom wearing a hat and said nothing of it, which concreted in my mind that I was targeted because of my age. I went to talk to the office again and they told me that it should not be an issue if I wore my hat because I am an adult and I was not skating. I walked out of the office to be confronted by the owner again, who told me once again to remove my hat. After telling him that two other employees had told it was not an issue, he did not back down and continued to make it an issue. Out of principle at this point I would not take my hat off, I am an adult and may choose to wear a hat if I wish, I was not harming anybody. But I told him if it was really that big of a deal I would go get my girlfriend and leave the establishment, a mere 20 minutes after we had arrived. His response was "Good, go." At this point I was pretty shocked by his complete disrespect towards me. So I got my girlfriend and returned to the office to ask for a refund as my girlfriend's skating time had been cut very short to what she wished it to be due to this ignorant man's disrespectful and dangerous attitude. This is when I found out he was the owner, because refunds must be processed by him. He would not even let me speak and give him my point of view. He continued to treat me as if I were a child, telling me that I had an attitude and was disrespectful towards him. So eventually after having a very one-sided conversation that went nowhere, my girlfriend and I left, sans refund. Warning to all: if you donât want you or your children to be discriminated against, disrespected, and completely ignored DO...
Read moreso tonight was bad for many reasons some of which are reoccurring reasons for why I don't go to semoran on saturdays.First off too many kids that don't know how to skate and ignorant parents who want to get mad at the skaters for doing what they do every session every week everyone they skate, second tonight I perhaps saw the most unprofessional manager deescalate skills I've ever seen of course cater to everybody but have compassion for those especially if someone was assaulted especially one of your regulars who pay money to your facility twice up to three times a week and lastly which I know wasn't your fault DjMayhem Gr if you're going to get a dj who is not one of your employees let him decide the control of the music as long as it meets the category of old school which was being followed keep in mind this is not a home rink dj this is external and when it geyd to the point where the dj wants the night to end because they no longer feel comfortable it's now an unfortunate situation for the entire crowd and the facility someone who is a professional DJ should be able to enjoy there vocation at all time they play as it's for the people and the music keeps them going, with all that being said this is the last Saturday I'm going to semoran and keep in mind even though the DJ didn't play his usual shuffle music within the old school category it was perhaps the only time I could actually skate to something on a Saturday. The music was catered to everyone but could have been sped up more for those who like to shuffle. Old School includes shuffle music such as Stevie B, Freestyle Project, M.C ADE, Miami Bass, 69 Boyz as most of these artist made their songs IN THE 70S, 80S, AND 90S but because you think the speed of the music is an issue you made the music be what it was as I saw the manager and heard the manager plenty of times ask for the tempo to be slowed down when it never went above 123 BPM which is PREDOMINANTLY SLOWER MUSIC. The category and theme of the night is old school not slow music. If the floor was not being controlled it was because the floor guards weren't in control of the floor the traffic and the speed of the skaters, when there's an abundance of kids in a mix of experienced skaters it's the floor guards job to maintain the safety by making sure the speed lanes are clear for more experience (outside) and beginners and slower skaters towards the center of the skating floor (inside). THIS WAS NOT FOLLOWED AT ALL WHICH IS THE REASON FOR THE FIGHTS AND THE ACCIDENTS THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT NOT THE SKATERS ALONE. As an establishment you cater to everyone not just the birthday children as they perhaps will show up 10 times in their lifetime while your regulars will show up 50+ within a year and if you think about it it's your main source of money. You've lost a customer here and a regular, today was CHAOS and just...
Read moreMy daughter has talked about her skate party for months and was very excited to celebrate her 4th birthday at Semoran Skateway. Unfortunately from the time we arrived the staff was extremely rude towards our party. The host, Debbie, rudely snatched our bag and balloons from my wife and said âIâll put these in the room for you since your time in the party room has already started. (We chose to come right at 1:45 when our party room slot was) When they let us into the room, weâd discovered one of our balloons had been unraveled by the host, and then one of the ceiling fans popped our daughterâs helium unicorn ballon.
I was also never informed about the $49 up-charge to turn on the black lights in the room and was scolded by our host insisting âwe did not pay for the glow partyâ package. So we just accepted the bright fluorescents and the very dated decor in the cramped party room A.
The room, which I asked to change to another room prior to party, was in the worst possible spot to access. The whole area was crowded with other people and skaters and the entire next party that reserved the room after us. We noticed other people going through our daughterâs gifts that were placed for us on a wire rack outside the room. Everything was very rushed getting in and out of the room
The included pizza was ice cold and left out on plates rather than being served to us fresh in the box. Many of the arcade games were out of service or broken.
Any or all of these issues could have been resolved with some decent customer service and to the manager on duty Leylaâs credit, she did apologize and address our concerns to the best of her ability.
For the money (approximately $250 including the automatic gratuity and taxes) this was a terrible value for the services we received.
I have been to Semoran Skateway on different occasions and never saw the severe lack of customer service...
