I went to academy to get my cross bow set up and to learn more about it. I knew I needed arrows, target arrows, practice target, etc. I really don't know what all is included in cross bow hunting but I was going there to get all set up. I went into store and walked to hunting counter. Both emloyees were helping a customer each. So I walked around there for a few minutes till finally I just decided to stand at the archery part of the counter. Both employees looked down there at me a couple times while helping their customer. Not once did I get acknowleged or greeted. I continued to stand there with my son. The younger of the 2 employees finished up with his customer. He then walked over to the archery cabinets and stood there with hi s back turned towards me. Still have not been greeted, asked if I needed anything, nothing. Then he walked back the gun part and went to the back and never came back out. At this point I have watched the other employee (Malcolm) help 2 MORE customers that just walked up. I was really upset at that point, so I did walk over to Malcolm, while he was helping a customer, and said how I have been down there waiting for a good 45 minutes and you have now helped 2 more customers without helping me, I appreciate your help. And I walked out. My husband was already less then 5 mins away. So I told him, I have this $40 gift card I got for my birthday, let's spend it and go get everything at bass pro. So I went to fishing department. I was literally there for 2 minutes and this middle age, dark haired gentleman walked up and asked if I needed anything. Showed me what I was looking for and was very nice and helpful. So I rated 1 star and that 1 star goes to that nice gentleman in fishing department. Thank you for your help. So amyways, we spent my gift card and will now be going to bass pro for everything...
Read moreAsked me if I wanted to open an "Academy account". I said sure and gave my information. At no time did they say they where going to run a credit check or that this was going to be a credit account. Then before I could even say to not add the charge to this new credit account the cashier put the payment on the new account and they wouldn't let me pay it off in-store. I asked the cashier MULTIPLE times if this was a credit card and she kept saying "no this is an academy account". I then had to make an account online to pay this off and get advertisement emails from comenity (the academy creditor). I called back later and asked for a manager and was hung up on 3 times before I finally gave up. I called comenity and asked them to close the card and they said they did. I then called back a week later and it still wasn't closed and the support representative on the phone said no action was ever taken to close the account, so once again I asked to close the account. Now over a month later I call back AGAIN, and the account still is not closed.... This is a nightmare. I will never shop here again because of this experience. I also proceeded to make a report to the credit bureaus, the ftc, and the the BBB about this location running credit checks without permissions, trapping people into "academy accounts" which they don't specify are credit cards, and even after asking if it is a credit account they tell you no it's not. It's sad because the store is nice, but these predatory practices...
Read moreI walked into Academy Sports and Outdoors with a simple goal: to buy some .22 ammunition. Little did I know, I was about to embark on an epic quest that would rival any action movie.
First off, the store is huge. I felt like I needed a map, a compass, and maybe a sherpa to navigate through the aisles. I wandered through the camping section, got lost in the fishing gear, and almost set up camp in the tent display before I finally found the ammunition section.
When I got there, it was like finding the Holy Grail. The shelves were stocked with more ammo than I could ever dream of. I half-expected a choir of angels to start singing. I grabbed a box of .22 ammo and felt like I had just won the lottery.
But the adventure didn’t stop there. On my way to the checkout, I got distracted by the exercise equipment. I tried out a treadmill and almost launched myself into the next aisle. Then I found the kayaks and briefly considered paddling my way to the register.
The staff were incredibly helpful. One employee even gave me a high-five when I told him I found the ammo. I think we bonded over our shared love of outdoor gear. By the time I made it to the checkout, I felt like I had completed a marathon.
In the end, I left Academy Sports and Outdoors with my .22 ammo, a new appreciation for the great indoors, and a story to tell. If you’re looking for an adventure, this is the place to go. Just make sure you...
