My fiancee and I worked with Jody. She was very friendly and personable. We were very excited when we found out that we could get a customized ring to match my fiancee's engagement ring. Unfortunately, things did not go well from there.
We were under a time crunch with the wedding only a month and a half away. Jody had quoted us four weeks for the whole process and it ended up taking six or seven weeks. We felt rushed because things were going so slow. When we finally got the wax it was difficult to tell, but looking at wax we didn't realize the completed ring would turn out as poorly as it did. When we got the completed ring, it was clear it was not that great. In comparison to the engagement ring, it looked very poorly done with the matching patterns distorted and spotty and it cost almost twice as much as the engagement ring. Further, Boyson doesn't have any satisfaction guarantee, so even though we were very displeased with the final ring, we were obligated to buy a poorly crafted ring.
We also purchased my wedding band there and it was a bit too small. We were fed up with Boyson and wanted to return it and go to another trusted jeweler. At this point, I found out my ring considered custom made as well because it was made to my size (though it is too small) and could not be return. Jody had never told us my ring was custom and non-refundable and this was perhaps the most frustrating part.
Finally, this was my first major jewelry purchase and I had never heard about rhodium plating of white gold. AFTER we purchased the rings, she told us about the rhodium plating and that we'd likely have to get them re-plated every year or so for $25 a piece.
Overall I am very frustrated and will never go back to Boyson or recommend it. While Boyson failed significantly in all the above ways, I recognize they have a stellar and long-lived reputation. If only one of the above problems (excluding the lack of information about my ring) had occurred, I would have ignored it as a simple slip in an otherwise outstanding history. However, with everything combined this was a case of lack of quality work, communication and...
Read moreTook in my wedding ring yo have the prongs fixed...had a disagreement with my husband on Thursday night called to cancel the repair at 8:16PM, my ring had been there since Monday..then called Friday morning less than 24 hours at 8:16AM knowing they do not open until 11:00 and said sorry, disregard my message from last night, owner called me back at 10:41 and said oh she understands and the repair guy jad my ring prepped but was not in Friday so it should be done Monday ...waited all day yesterday whating for a call that my ring is ready for pick up, did not hear from Boyson Jewelry so I had to run into Cedar Rapids today (Tuesday) with my grandson because I had to go to the UPS store so I thought because we live in Anamosa that I would just stop in to see if my ring was done because we are leaving for Texas to see our son and grandchildren and she gave me by ring, I put it on and she said "oh toy can't wear it" I said what? And she said you called and said not to fix it...I had my grandson so I was not going to get into a long conversation with her. So if you change your mind 4 days after you drop off your ring and leave a message and then less than 24 hours call back to disregard my message at 8:16AM and then owner calls back same day at 10:41 and we talked and she understood things happen but she disregarded my call and said her Jeweler was not in but your ring will be done Monday...very very disappointed that we had a conversation when she called me back after I left a message to disregard my prior message less than 24 hours...never got another call asking when I would be picking up my unfinished ring...just left hanging so how long would I have waited thinking they where fixing my ring? Poor memory...poor communication, will not be going...
Read moreJody and Boyson Jewelry were an absolute delight to work with. I came to them to create an engagement ring for my girlfriend (now fiancé) . Jody is a professional. She was able to bring my vision to life as I rattled off all of the qualities I wanted to have in the ring. Additionally, I gave her a price range that she stayed within nicely - no last minute “I know it’s more than you wanted to spend, but (insert pitch here)” She both got me what I wanted and overdelivered on the intuitive designer side to cultivate a ring that literally took my fiancé’s breathe away when I proposed. She used the words “perfect”, “beautiful”, and “gorgeous” to describe the little little collection of gold and diamonds shining out of a small, black box.
That moment would not have been as magical without Jody and Boyson Jewelry. I’ve since purchased earrings from them that perfectly matched the engagement ring (perks of having a good relationship with your jeweler).
Even though I now live in California, I will always be calling Jody and Boyson Jewelry for the birthdays, weddings, anniversaries and any other occasion that I know where the little things make a big difference.
If you’re wondering if this is the right place to go, take the leap. You won’t be...
