May City Bowl — Local services in Cedar Rapids

It seemed to be a decent place upon entering it. Maybe it actually is I just had a bad experience. I took my daughter and her friends there for birthday bowling. After we paid, we spent half the time paid for moving from 1 bowling lane to the next because of malfunctioning ball returns. I was told that the 11 year olds weren't strong enough to throw the balls hard enough to get them to feed into the ball return. We would sit and wait for bowling balls to return for minutes and minutes before asking the attendant for help. Of course he'd say, be right over and we would wait even longer for him to arrive. Then we would wait for him to walk down in adjacent Lane and mess around with something for a while. He would say "try it again" and so we did until it malfunctioned again and we would have to move taking even longer for that process. He offered no compensation. So boring. We won't be going...

Big picture, had a great experience here. Got an incredible Groupon Deal which made it a very affordable treat to do with the family over Christmas break. It even included a pitcher of pop or beer. My 88 year old father was eventually driven crazy by the loud music, but I didn't find it overpowering, and I'm on the sensitive side, too, for loud music. The score was kept automatically and the family enjoyed the cartoon graphics after our rolls. They have ball ramps to assist children or those with limitations, but don't have many so if you need one, may want to get there early. Also have lane bumpers to encourage young kids. Love that it's smoke free--- bowling alleys were always the worst for air quality in the past! It was hopping with people, but no one was rude or out of control. I didn't even know about this place until my friend told me they were doing a strike out domestic violence bowling event. I am not as good as I used to be but it was still fun.
