I visited another of your stores but I couldn't get there. My workmate introduced this other store which evidently was much closer to our hotel. But his time I was moving about in a rush to grab some needy items. That I will certainly not do in the future. I picked up my fruits first. Boy, were they expensive but I needed them. By the way 2 of the lychee were rotten, and the rest didn't taste so nice. I took a picture of them as evidence.
I searched for an attendant to ask if there were any sweet potatoes- I couldn't find anyone. I found them on my own, sadly they were so huge, and their condition left little to be desired. But because I was so desperate I picked one from the pile they looked shriveled all over- I reluctantly choose one. As I walked around the stand I found some white yam- I was excited, but no sooner had I smiled with glee it became a frown. The yams were rotting my finger sunk in 3 pieces that I picked up. I picked up a huge one, and I walked over to the counter where the ladies were preparing cut packaged fruits to ask for them to slice the bottom of the yam to check if it was good because I scraped the surface and it became red. When they cut it, it looked red- this is supposed to be white yam.
Obviously, I had to say no to that piece of yam. One of the lady's came over to assist me I showed her the very big yam, and I told her I would like half of the yam because it felt firmer than the rest. She said she couldn't because the yam wasn't to be cut. I left without any yam. Because I had to leave in a rush I couldn't get to explore the whole ambit of the store, it was the same with the other store on my first visit. I wished the store had a shuttle bus from the hotel to the store because I don't drive.
It takes me a little longer in the store because I have to have a no sugar/salt, white potatoes, white bread/flour/dairy diet so it takes awhile to read all the labels to ensure my cholesterol is in check because right now it is very high. I am Caribbean-American, and we can't exists without our ground provision. I am here for work purposes, and I had brought some over with me from Brooklyn- that's where I live, but they had all finished.
I was not happy. I was overjoyed however, when I found that the supermarket sold Yuca (Cassava) which was also another staple from our country Jamaica. I even became more elated when I found some Porgy fish in the fish section I was so delighted. I was more than pleased when the attendant in the fish area decided to take 10-15 mins. to organize, and package my fish order. I told him just to clip the tail/the fins- but oh my good Lord this guy took his own gentle time working on the order I was gobsmacked at how diligent he was- mark you, my teammate was anxiously waiting in his car in the parking lot calling me to find out where I was because our departure time had well gone, and I needed to get to him soon. This guy was truly a star in the care he took to make sure my order was properly taken care up. Thank...
Read moreI am all for hiring young people, but for the love - train your staff. The experience becomes subpar when staff is at the customer service desk eating, chatting and seem inconvenienced by customers waiting to be serviced at the customer service desk. The irony!
We have a responsibility to shape young people and teach them to care or at the very least pretend they care. Saturday afternoon, I flagged an employee down to report an older woman picking up the cookies with her bare hands, as I watched her eat half of two cookies and drop them in the plastic bag. Which was absolutely gross! After I was brushed off by a guy at the bakery. I went to customer service, and felt like I was in the twilight zone.
The Chantilly location was once premiere, the deli is consistently inconsistent. Floral is rude, lazy, and management needs do better about training and developing staff than just hiring warm bodies. There are entirely way too many employees and senior personnel in the store for the basic conduct to be so subpar, and so many new faces that don’t know what the hell they’re doing.
I am understanding to people having off days, and not every person is going to bring their A game every single day. Life happens to us all. But the consistent rudeness and lack of effort has become disheartening. The long lines, even at self check out, defective equipment, wonky scanners turns what’s supposed to be a pleasant shopping experience into a dreadful one, and this is pretty much the experience almost always unless I’m there at 7a, when the store seems to staff only a few folks right at opening that are pleasant, efficient, and know what the heck they’re doing.
Rant over. Please fix Chantilly. Choose quality over quantity. Again too many warm bodies that look like they’re just taking up space rather than working together for the greater good to deliver a...
Read moreLong time regular of the Fairfax Wegmans, but I have to say, I'm migrating here. Sorry Fairfax, but you lose out simply due to the realities of real estate.
This store is huge, with a spacious and open entryway and so many prepared food options you might not want to grab lunch at the Chipotle or the Cava out in the parking lot after all.
If I had to pick a nit, it would be that this enormous store has a ridiculously small jam selection. Maybe I just haven't found my way around yet, and most of them are in some artisanal jam hidey-hole that I didn't know to check, but there aren't even any Smucker's Naturals strawberry next to the peanut butter. (The peanut butter selection is no great shakes, either.)
I could spend all day wandering through the different "neighborhoods" inside this Wegmans. From the vast produce section, to the bread bakery, the dessert bakery, to the charcuterie and deli, to the fishmongers', to the butchers' counter, to the Mediterranean bar, to the cheesemongers' counter, to.... They are all beautiful, and I have faith in the Wegmans company that they will stay that way because every one of their stores I have visited has been maintained to the highest order.
And oh my goodness The Burger Bar! The burger and the chicken sandwich rival any I've had at a fast-casual or full service restaurant. Not to be too focused on jams, but the maple onion jam on their signature burger is not to be missed.
Can't wait to visit on a Taco Tuesday some day soon to try the Mexican counter. Looks like a great selection of...
