{Note this review only about the food. The staff, service, environment, decor are perfectly fine and the place is very clean but this review just about the food since that's what this business is delivering.}
---- Jun 2024 review update ---- Musubi flavors and stuffings seem to have improved somewhat. Ordered spicy salmon, OG, surf & turf musubi. There's not much to write home about. There is slightly more flavor. The filling ingredients have changed. The musubi with the most depth in flavor have pickled red cabbage. I really wish more spicy sauces are available. At $10-12 per musubi, I believe there are more flavorful handhelds nearby. TBH, the only highlight items I would return to buy are the 2 dessert items: Ube rice crispy treat and Ube coconut dessert cup.
---- Original May-Jun 2023 review ---- I really really like Musubi. Ordered the California and Spicy Tuna musubi because I craved for the flavor of avocado, spam, seaweed, and rice in one bite. Like most other reviews around this time, the musubi is huge so the expectation and excitement is high. But it is dissapointingly bland. I like rice with it's natural sweetness when steam cooked properly to the right tenderness but the rice used is bland and overly stuffed with no flavor whatsoever. I tasted nothing when biting into both musubi and had to dissect the musubi to try the filling by itself. The filling ingredients are devastatingly bland as well. I'm saddened; Musubi inventors should be upset; I hope the recipe improves. There is just way too little flavor, too much rice, and in the context of things, overly expensive for the bland value. This place used to be a pokebowl place which offered far more flavorful food but too bad it is replaced by...
Read moreFirst time going into this place, and my last. Walking in, the place itself looks nice and updated but the employees there need some work. Because it was my first time, I went to the kiosk available to browse the menu. I asked one of the employees what was in the “Hawaiian kimchi” on the menu, and unfortunately she didn’t understand my question, so she got the other employee, who I repeated the question to. The other employee replied “it’s kimchi, the sides are on the menu” to which I replied, what makes it Hawaiian, and she finally let my know it has pineapples added. Ok thanks. So I placed my order, along with my mom who was also there. I was going to wait for both orders as we only ordered a few minutes apart. I sat and waited over 20 minutes for the orders, only to go up to the counter to see they put the orders up, but never called them out. So I have no clue how long it was just sitting there. When I asked why they didn’t call out the order, they had no response. I was irritated, hungry, and just wanted to get my food and go. Need better...
Read moreWe came to Capital Musubi on a whim when we needed a quick snack and we weren’t disappointed.
Nestled in the same plaza as the Chantilly Wegmans, Capital Musubi has lots of different musubi options that anyone will like.
To start we tried the spicy chicken onigiri. It was confusing to take the plastic wrapping off, and when we did chicken pieces fell out. I really liked it though, but my husband didn’t love it. He said there was something about the taste that wasn’t right for him.
He ordered the spicy salmon musubi and was kind of disappointed - he said that it tasted almost like tuna and not salmon. He was hoping it would be more chunks of salmon and not shredded like it was.
I ordered the OG musubi and loved it. The sauce, I think, makes it. It tasted amazing and the flavors were perfectly balanced.
There isn’t much seating inside, but most people seemed to do take out instead. The ordering seemed kind of confusing because they only have people order on these screens to the side, not at the...
