Chino Towne Center — Local services in Chino

Chino Town Square once stood as the heart of the city, a vibrant center bustling with life and activity during my school years. It was home to popular spots like laser tag, Nordstrom Rack, Knee Toys, AMC Theaters, Sam's Club, jewelers, Mervyn's, Kohl's, and Marie Callender's—making it a hub for shopping, entertainment, and community connection. Over the years, however, the city's focus has shifted to the outskirts, the hills, and newer developments, leaving this once-thriving area in a state of decline.

Today, Target is the last remaining anchor, a lone survivor of what used to be a lively hub. Whether this was due to city planning, economic changes, or other factors, it’s disheartening to see such an essential part of Chino reduced to this state. The center of our city deserves better.

There’s so much potential here to revitalize Chino Town Square and bring the community back together. A Walmart, for instance, could bring convenience and attract new foot traffic. Instead of driving to other areas like Grand or Mountain, we could have everything we need right here in the heart of Chino. With some investment and a collective effort, this space could once again become a bustling center, representing the pride and spirit of the city. It's time for the community to come home and restore...

I would give it a higher-rating if this were in the late 1980's or early 1990's but, the issue is that this place has lost many of it's stores to the Chino Spectrum back when the Chino Spectrum and adjoining mall across the street opened near Chino Hills in the late 1990's. This outdoor shopping center was a hub back in the day but, after losing Nordstrom Rack and Sam's Club to the Spectrum it just wasn't the same. The Sam's Club was replaced by Curacao and I think Nordstrom Rack is now a discount or furniture store. The Mervyn's is now a Burlington after they went bankrupt a few years back. The last straw was when Marie Callender's closed and the Olive Garden across the street moved to the Spectrum to replace a shut-down Macaroni Grill a couple years back. If the Target that is probably the highest sales grossing tenant in the Chino Towne Center moves, then I do not see much hope for this place. Sadly, online shopping is slowly killing these town-centers with various shops/stores where the community would gather to shop, dine, see a movie.
