I love Cincinnati Children’s, but I am so disappointed with the Burnet campus and how we were treated on 5/22! I also reported our issues to family relations before leaving this review to see if this issue would be resolved and it was not.
My daughter had her first seizure while sleeping on 5/22. I awoke to her having a seizure that morning. Since she was not coming out of the seizure, I called 911. They immediately arrived and stepped into action. The squad that attended to us were knowledgeable and caring. They advised since this was her first seizure that she be transported to CCHMC Emergency. Upon arrival we were triaged by the ER and told by the triage nurse that “she is eligible for urgent care, we will get you out to the lobby and see you in there”. I did not present to the urgent care and did not want to receive care from this location, but I was not given an option to stay in the ER. I feel like my daughter did not get the appropriate level of care nor care from the location that I presented to. Once we were in urgent care, we were seen by Karen Daly, APRN-CNP. She was completely dismissive and did not listen to most of what I had to say. In addition, she altered the information I provided her in the clinical notes. I awoke to my daughter having a seizure at 0827 that morning and the provider altered the time to midnight in the clinical notes. I contacted family relations to informed them of the issues we had upon our visit and they followed back up with me today (5/29) and basically said the nurse in triage said I was lying about wanting to be seen in the ER and that I picked to go to the urgent care! I explained that I took the medical advice from the EMT to be transferred to children’s er and if I wanted to the seen at an urgent care I would had been seen by the one 15 minutes from my house versus taking an ambulance to be seen at an urgent care over an hour away! Family relationship also let me know they could not update the clinical notes to accurate information and I would need to fill out additional paperwork to have it amended for accurate information to be put into my child’s chart.
(I also included a screenshot of Cincinnati Children’s website showing that a seizure only qualifies for their Emergency locations and does not give another option for care...
Read moreI am appalled at the level of service my daughter received at this location. My daughter was having terrible pains in her abdomen. I took her to urgent care. Urgent care advised that she could have appendicitis and directed us to take her to CCHMC. Upon arrival she was directed to not eat or drink anything until she was seen. It took almost 6 hours for her to be seen. When we finally were seen we were advised they needed to do an ultrasound and then proceeded to tell us that the results may not be good because it is hard to get a good read if you have an empty bladder. We then explained she was told not to eat or drink. The attitude was oh well ! We waited another hour or so and finally had the ultrasound. The tech couldn't tell us anything and to this date we do not know what the results of that ultrasound were ! We are moved back into another room where a nurse attempted to draw her blood, didn't know or wasn't able to do so on her own and we had to help her open packages, etc..... Finally a nurse comes back and advises that they don't know what could be wrong. We proceed ro ask questions such as next steps. The response was unless my daughter falls to ground in pain, she should be OK. That is exactly what we were told. How this is a top rated medical facility baffles me. We were at the hospital until almost 6AM and that was the conclusion. Absolutely...
Read moreWe are frequent flyers at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. My 4-year-old has cystic fibrosis and has been seen by Dr. Hjelm the entirety of her life. From the moment she was born, Michelle Hjelm has gone above and beyond to ensure all of my questions are answered and my daughter is very well taken care of. If I ever have a concern, I know that I can get on my chart and have an answer on how to proceed with whatever situation it may be. I I've never felt anything other than love for the entire children's hospital staff.
The other day, I had to take my 10-month-old in because she was a little under the weather. As you can imagine, I was worried about how it could possibly affect my 4-year-old, so I took my baby to urgent care to be looked at. They immediately ran any tests they needed to rule out any kind of infection, and they did rule them out, thankfully. They didn't make me feel ashamed for bringing her in, instead they understood why I did it and they applauded me for being so vigilant with my kids' health. I know that kids get sick, but when you have a immunity compromised child, every sickness can turn into something bigger and scarier.
So, to wrap things up, I will always highly recommend Cincinnati Children's Hospital. And if you are in a position where you need to choose a pulmonologist, Michelle Hjelm will always get my...
